Junior year of high school for me, but yeah, I played it so much. Even my Thanksgiving that year, I was still listening to almost nothing else. Crazy how certain albums dominated my life back then. It's a lot harder for something to do that nowadays.
Chase this Light was my favorite JEW album for so long. I can't believe it's 10 already. I remember hunting that album down on release day. Gonna spin it for the next few weeks for sure.
Yupppp junior year for me too. My family and I drove to North Carolina (from Wisconsin) the week this came out. I remember listening to the CD non stop on that drive and man.....music just rarely does that for me anymore. Such a special album.
I have mixed memories associated with my first listens to almost every JEW album but for me the best one was cracking my Discman in November '04 and throwing in Futures while my fam drove through the Rockies from Banff down to Invermere BC I had only three discs to listen to the whole trip, Futures, Snow Patrol's Final Straw and Lifehouse's Stanley Climbfall. All underrated albums in their own right
Few days early, but here's my 10-year piece for Chase This Light. Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light • chorus.fm
It's 10 years old today, where the hell did that time go. I remember getting so hyped for this album back in the day. Also that's a really great retrospective for the album Craig, you really nail it with how deceivably dark this album is, it’s probably why I relate so much with it.
Seeing them tour this album was by far my favourite time seeing them live, they've always been great shows but on this tour their set list was perfect imo. The fact they recorded and sold cd's of that tour as well was just incredible, fyi I was at the Brixton show. Chase This Light Tour 2008 - Wikipedia
Also I really loved the b-sides to Chase This Light, Be Sensible and especially Distraction are so good.
Be Sensible and Open Bar Reception are essential Jimmy. They could have put out a really great SOMST type ep after
i like this verison of YWG better than the album version. I also like the electric version of "Your House" more than the BA version
Surely they've got enough b-sides by now to put out another collection made up of all the b-sides post the Singles collection.
Definitely the exact opposite for me, haha. Personally, I used to really dislike Your House for a long time, but when I randomly went on a Bleed American binge a couple months ago it really clicked for me. The re-recorded version is really good too, of course, but doesn’t quite give me the same feeling. Also YWG as it is on the album is one of my favorite on it, though I definitely get why some people aren’t as into it (I’m also a weirdo who puts Damage second on my fav JEW albums list).
I get a real copa cabana feeling when the lyrics kick in for the original Your House ("When you're on..."), that little happy drum shuffle and nimble bass just never worked quite right. The half-time stretch of the updated version allows for better musicality. But I don't hate the original either, it gets a lot better as the song goes.
yeah the album version of Your House has this fun, i think @vidiviciveni nailed it with "copa cabana", tropical bouncy feel to it. I just like the electric version more but I generally dont like acoustic songs to begin with.
I like both versions of Your House, but I definitely prefer the alternate version they released in 2007. Watching their live set during the CTL era on YouTube where they played that version of Your House had me blown away.
I remember seeing them on the tour they did the summer before CTL when they debuted that version. Gave me a whole new appreciation for the song.
Listened to CTL today while driving through desert mountains on my way back from a client meeting at a Ranch. It was perfect.
A CTL 10 year anniversary tour and re-issue with bonus songs and live recording would be sweet. Kinda like what they did for the Clarity re-issue.
