I saw them last night. They played pretty much the same setlist I've seen them play a bunch of times but it's always such a blast regardless
Saw the front-page poll and I'm surprised how much love Futures is getting. That's not a slight against the album as I've hardly listened to it, just serving as a self-reminder that I need to check it out more and digest the songs. Always loved Bleed American and Integrity Blues was one of my most played albums of last year. So I've clearly got some homework to do, haha.
Last weekend I went on a double date with my girlfriend, her friend and her friends boyfriend I've never met. Her friend's boyfriend asked me what my favorite JEW album was and I said Futures....He legit gave me shit for liking it more than Clarity and Bleed American haha.
A year later and I still can’t get over how good Integrity Blues is. I’m pretty comfortable saying it’s my favorite since Futures, and I really like the three albums in between.
I feel like my enjoyment of JEW will go on without that Ska covers are the laugh-track sitcoms of the music world
it's surprisingly done pretty well. it's not like "here's a fast ska cover of a slow song!" they keep the general tempo of the originals in mind, and kinda play off of that. at least that's what i've noticed so far. i've only listened to a few of the tracks so far.
Yeah, I'm listening now and it's surprisingly good. Ska covers done wrong are probably the worst thing in music, but these aren't like caricature versions of ska songs. The horns add a nice touch and their harmonies are on point.
I mean, if you don't generally like ska, you probably won't like it. But it's not as blasphemous as it might sound from the description.
I'm finding myself listening to the full thing, which I didn't expect. On FMTIH now, and I want to see what they do with a 16-minute "Goodbye Ska Harbor".
