Jimmy Eat World are great; Cymbals Eat Guitars are kind of whatever. I've seen them live twice (opening for other bands) and both times were equally unimpressive. I would kill for Jimmy Eat World to play in Charlotte soon though. Never gotten to see them live.
It's their most accessible imo. Still retains that weird CEG style of songwriting with the textures and idiosyncratic lyrics, but a lot of the songs have massive hooks and great melodies. I could make a case for all 4 CEG records being my favorite/the best but right now I'm really feeling this new one
Shoulda been clearer, I was responding to @CoffeeEyes17 talking about cymbals eat guitars haha. Oops. But! Since you asked: opener is not how I expected this to start. First minute of that song is way different than anything they've done IMO. Pass the baby sounds like it would've fit in well on a different release of theirs, sorta; integrity blues is maybe their most unique sounding song yet within their Discog. I don't use weird as a criticism tho; this album is great and everyone in this thread is almost sure to love it. But it's definitely different and varied IMO and a little weird haha
Yeah I mean all 4 are pretty weird by conventional rock standards but the new one is the catchiest to me and a little more straightforward structurally
Ahhh, gotcha. Yeah, there are definitely elements of this that are more "out there" than anything they've done in a bit. "Pass the Baby" is probably their most "experimental" song since...I don't know when, actually. But then there are a lot of moments that really bring it back to wheelhouse JEW, too, like "Through" or "You Are Free." What's your favorite song on here?
I told @EngineDown id check out the rest of their stuff aside from What's The Story Morning Glory. I'll probably do that tonight.
The point of the pod is me discussing Oasis songs with people who have never heard the particular song of the episode before. So, for the most part, the less you know the better. It'll be very tough for Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova however
