More like /mu/ than Pitchfork, but yeah. Idk why you would care about one person's musical opinion on a million different album spanning all kinds of genres tbh. He's not as bad as people here think he is, but I also don't like him haha
Yeah. I mean, when he gives a positive review it's cool, but he gives most bands that are practically staples on this site bad reviews all the time. He's just kind of negative a lot. Like, I feel reviewers should focus on what they love far more than what they don't. In order to save money on shipping, I've opted to buy Integrity Blues in stores. I'm extremely excited for the album though. JEW somehow manages to get better every listen no matter what album. Haha
dudes racist and sexist as fuck so yeah, he is actually that bad. We arent kidding when we say hes a genuinely bad person. Not because he disagrees or gives negative scene reviews or something stupid like that, but because hes generally very toxic and manipulate. He is not someone to admire nor is he someone that should be given any sort of publicity/praise.
I find he's usually off base with pretty much all his reviews. He has such weird perspectives on music, I'm surprised he's the most popular music reviewer on Youtube. You can't trust his opinion on anything because he will often give great albums really low scores and vice versa. The comments on his videos make me feel pretty mad since the people there seem to rely on his opinion and his opinion only to make a decision on what they will or won't listen to. It's just such a bad thing to do, seeing as he tends to hate at least 50% of the top tier albums that are released every year. Also, I hate that he describes himself as a "music nerd" when he seems to actively dislike the majority of the music he reviews on his channel. The music nerds I know love most of the music they listen to and can't get enough of it. I've never known a music nerd irl that hates so much great music. In all honesty, I think he's an elitist dork. If something's popular, he's more likely to give it a negative review imo.
I don't think Ronald McDonald is that negative as a reviewer. He gives most of the albums he reviews a 6. In his rating system that means that he was kind of indifferent towards the album, but has more positive than negative aspects. Which makes sense, because most music is neither great nor awful. He is really biased towards some genres (like emo or pop punk), but at the end of the day, his job is to give a personal opinion and that's what he does. As long as people realize what he says is completely subjective, there is nothing wrong with listening to what he has to say. I'm not a fanboy, nor do I take his opinions as if they were facts, I'm just kind of defending him because I've discovered some of my favorite artists by watching his videos. I don't think he is sexist or racist, but maybe he is, I have no idea.
the ronald mcdonald autocorrect is killing me I used to post on a message board that had such a nightmarish and contentious philosophy thread that the admins made it so that "nietzsche" autocorrected to "julian casablancas"
I don't want to contribute anything else to the conversation about he-who-shall-not-be-named but the fact that his name autocorrects to Ronald McDonald is fucking amazing
Back to the conversation before the McDonalds one. I'm a dadrocker. Brand New / Thrice / Jimmy Eat World are all Dad Rock. I'm okay with this.
Idk when all my favorite band became Dad Rock, but I'm ok with it. It works nicely with my inevitable Dad bod. Have any of you covered any JEW songs? I did a vocal cover of Polaris the other day, check it out if you'd like!
Defending someone who is racist and sexist is kind of gross. It's not a matter of "thinking" he is those things, he really is those things. He's slutshamed female artists like Nicki and Beyonce, belittled black people and POC in the hip hop industry for having reasonable criticisms, and has just generally been extremely condescending and toxic towards women and POC. It's not really something worth defending
Oh, then I'm completely sorry. As I said before, I had no idea he had done/said all those things. I just watch some of his music reviews every now and then. I guess I'll stop watching his videos, I really don't feel like supporting someone like him. Still, I was defending him as reviewer, which doesn't have anything to do with him being a shitty person. I just wasn't aware of the whole situation, I guess. Sorry.
Yeah I know what you meant and I didn't mean to come off aggressively if I did, just wanted to educate people as to WHY a lot of us dislike him and groan when he's brought up
Anyway, I guess we should go back to talking about JEW. Any ideas/thoughts on what tomorrow's new single will be like? I think it's more than likely going to be that heavy riff we heard in the teaser video from the other week. Although Jimmy have been known to use teaser clips that weren't lifted from the lead single. If I remember rightly, their website played a clip of Night Drive before Futures came out, and similarly it played a clip of Always Be before CTL came out (which was eventually a single but not for quite a while after Big Casino). Didn't someone mention somewhere that Sure and Certain was categorised as rock/metal? Don't know if that means anything.
I'm glad I have no idea who this Ronald McDonald person is. I'm also glad that Jimmy Eat World exists and is releasing new music. Let's focus on the positive.
Sure and Certain was categorized as rock/metal on GetHits so I'm assuming it's the heavy preview song? Who knows though!
