It does seem to be the year that almost every good band in rock music seems to be releasing something.

 

I think at the very latest we will get a new album during Q2 2017. JEW releasing an album this year would round off probably the best year for alt rock in a while.

 

This first half has already had enough releases that would constitute a great year for music. We still have 6 months to go.

 

They've released an album every 3 years since BA so I'm just going to assume we get an album this year.

 

I'm really interested to see how they switch things up this time. They clearly have their signature sound but every album sticks out in its own special way to me:

- Static Prevails: Raw, classic 90s emo aesthetic
- Clarity: Classic for the genre and features very lush instrumentation
- Bleed American: The album where they found their signature sound
- Futures: Their most somber and a little more aggressive
- Chase This Light: They really dive into the deep end of their pop rock sound
- Invented: To me, this is their most similar to Clarity because of all its lush arrangements, but it stands out in its discography to me for having massive production job, the songs sound huge
- Damage: Raw, stripped down, bare take on their sound

So I'm interested to see how they change it up a bit this time.

 

i had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Butch Vig a few weeks ago and we talked a little about Chase This Light, how he loved what the guys had going on when they started talking ideas, and how he's still good friends with the band.

he then said he ran into Jim the other day, who was in a hurry because "they were on a schedule" and "the record had to be finished by this month". so i'm pretty sure we'll be getting new JEW this year! it's no surprise because they've been releasing albums every three years like clockwork, but it's good to have some kind of confirmation. just a heads up for those interested.

 

It may also be nothing, but their website got a small redesign. I'd love some new JEW in August/September.

 

Does anyone have the Futures bonus tracks? I would love to listen to them, thanks!

If it helps, I contacted the guy from Reddit I previously mentioned and he said that the album is indeed nearly finished, but he was unsure if it would be done by the end of May. He said they seem to be gearing up for a tour. So excited!

 

So excited. Also, Stay on my Side Tonight is an incredible collection of songs

 

"guy from Reddit" doesn't exactly give me a lot of confidence haha.

 

He seems to be pretty credible. He's posted pics of the band from the side of the stage, and I don't see why he would lie about something like that on a subreddit that's pretty much dead. If he was trolling he'd probably look for a place to get more attention.

Imagine if JEW decided to get darker and heavier. That'd be pretty sweet.

Or a disaster who knows.

Yeah I can't imagine JEW doing anything that would result in a disaster.

 

yeah theyre such talented songwriters I cant imagine anything they do would be even remotely bad.

 

i can get behind this. "the record had to be finished by May" leaves it open to interpretation - is the whole thing done or just their part of it, as in writing and recording? post-production can take a long time. nevertheless, i'm sure we'll get it this year. October is my guess.

 

Just make a full lp with the feel of Stay On My Side Tonight and I'd be happy.

 

Futures

 

Disintegration and Closer are so good. I haven't gotten a chance to see these guys live yet, but I hope they'll play at least one of these on their next tour

 

Getting a new album this fall/winter would be perfect.

 

I don't think I could ever reach a point in my life where I am not thrilled for a new, fall Jimmy Eat World album (or any other season for that matter).

 

/Nothing/ beats listening to Clarity during the Winter outside on a cloudy day.
