I was gonna say, if you're listening on your phone, you can go into the settings and change the bitrate and make it higher quality. Not sure if you can do that on the desktop version, but it may be worth looking into.
To me, length of an doesn’t mean there is filler in there. If there is a variety or well rounded like you said, in the music but it feels like it belongs together I’m really ok with it. Just to bring that concept to another medium, Saving Private Ryan is 2hrs and 50 min and feels perfect, and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is 2 hrs and 40 minutes and has a number of filler scenes which don’t drive the story. Both are good, but only one of the two would benefit from being a little shorter. Blink also did a 15 song album and I gotta say I’ve really enjoyed it. And no, they didn’t release everything they had, leaving a more quirky song off as b side and however many other tracks featuring hip hop/pop artists that wouldn’t have suited an album flow. Maybe if have a higher threshold for listening to an artist or band. Anyway, this will be resolved for me personally if they follow it up with an EP or whatever in time, so I’ll just have to start being patient as of right now.
“Diamond” is the weakest track on here imo. Would have preferred they swapped that with something else if they had other songs to choose from, but the other 9 are all at least pretty good, with some being real gems.
remember when we were all trying to guess what color the 1975 LP3 cover was gonna be and someone made a green one that looked like St. patrick's day
All the songs are my favorite but Criminal Energy is probably my least favorite. Delivery is probably my most favorite. Recommit is up there too.
All of these songs are my favorite post-CTL attempts at various styles. Least favorite track on here is Congratulations, but I do think it works as a closer. And that last minute is awesome.
I do hear the FOB vibes in 555, but that’s not a knock at all. It’s one of their most contemporary sounding tracks, I hope it gains traction, and it is still very much JEW. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up a top 10-20 JEW favorite for a lot of fans.
yeah i love that they really put themselves out there on "555" and yet it doesn't ever feel like it's not a jimmy eat world song
This is the album of the year, decade, and maybe JEW’s career. It is perfection in musical form and I haven’t felt this way listening to an album for the first few times more than a few times in my life. Also, i’m aware this is all release day hyperbole and I don’t care. It’s so good I’m willing to stand by this take years from now. All hail Jimmy Eat World.
I'm afraid to watch the 555 video based on that thumbnail lol For me, this song doesn't belong on the album and I don't like its repetitiveness
I am not as big a fan of them as most people on here, but as someone who liked Integrity Blues, hardly gave Damage a try, and didn’t care much for Invented, this is definitely up there with their career bests.
To celebrate release day, Jimmy Eat World have unveiled the Jim Adkins and Michael Gill co-directed video for “555” (watch here). One of the most poignant, soul searching tracks on Surviving, the video provides a wry, fantastical counter-balance to the song’s emotional heft, with a strong 80’s sci-fi influence. “555” is another deeply personal song from Jim Adkins, about resisting accepting your reality, and the damage it can cause. Speaking of the inspiration behind the new music video, Jim says: “I've always liked the Rick Springfield video for 'Bop 'Till You Drop'. A reptilian overlord managing his minions gets overthrown by his workforce. He's kind of trying to keep them in line, but one guy breaks into song and mass rebellion ensues. From the overlord's perspective, that day was a pretty bad day. I always thought that was funny. So 555 sees me cast as a galactic evil master, overseeing an army of cloned species doing my bidding - this is the only life they know, joining me in song in this post-apocalyptic dystopia.”From the video press release.
