only possible complaint I have before I finally shut up and let this thread carry on: why isn't "Recommit" like three minutes longer than it is??
Let's all reflect, not only that we have a new Jimmy Eat World album, but that we have a new Fall Jimmy Eat World album.
Recommit feels like it could have been a closer to me. Similar to how the song Invented could have been a closer to me. They aren’t, but other songs that work as a closer follow them, so I’m good with the ore closure feels and a sound shift to close out the album. I’ll use another example of Gaslight Anthem’s Handwritten Or ‘59 Sound. Mae could have been closer or Here’s Looking at You Kid. Both songs close the feel of the album and allow for an awesome late shift. The acoustic National Anthem or right away in your face The Backseat. Also both great songs and closers. Recommit could have ended it nice musically, but sets up the change for a more intense Congratulations. Win, Win.
I disagree on pretty much all counts, haha. I don’t think any of those songs are closers. They would all leave those records feeling unresolved, imo.
It’s one of those “we’ll never know” because those others songs are there, and just my opinion. There are more examples of where I think this is done well.
I tried deleting the files and then re-uploading to no avail oh well at least we get the official shit tn !!!!!!!!!!!
"Here's Looking at You, Kid" is really the one that I can't picture being a closer. Maybe on a very different, more downbeat record. That particular album needs to end with a bang.
Even albums I think are sequenced wrong I would rather rub sandpaper across my skin then actually mess with them, but the idea of fucking with The '59 Sound makes my stomach turn.
the famous line “Here’s Looking at You, Kid” from Casablanca is sort of a goodbye. Last song, hopeless romance, goodbye. The punch of The Backseat at the end is fantastic.
no one is messing around with the end of ‘59 sound, or even suggesting it. I think you may need to re read what I was saying before getting upset.
