i've never really thought about it before, but i think i'm going to try and put together a top 10 of my favorite JEW songs before the album drops on Friday.
"I Will Steal You Back" got a fairly big push on the Toronto alt-rock station at the time. And "Sure and Certain" got a big push on the Calgary alt-rock station when I was living out there at the time, pretty cool but neither had loads of traction unfortunately, though they do pop up occasionally in the rotation still.
In fairness, I do not listen to the radio anymore ever, but I still did up until a few years ago, and the only Jimmy songs I ever heard were "Sweetness" and "The Middle". I think I remember a couple songs from Futures being played on the radio back around the time the album came out, but not in the years after that.
Oh fuck, I work for a few hours and there are 3 new pages. I think, maybe it leaked. So far, it’s all about Hardwick’s bullshit. Will catch up later... but dammit.
Basically @Jason Tate's post on the previous page should get you up to speed at where everyone is on this.
I love Davey Von Bohlens voice on that song. I would love it if they brought him back for another feature.
Yeah, I still hear a lot of those bands on the radio, even with the very limited amount of time I spend listening to the radio. The Killers, Green Day, Jimmy Eat World, Frank Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, etc. But I don’t think any of those bands would have a prayer of scoring a hit now. “45” got some traction, but yeah, that album would have been fucking massive if it had come out in the early to mid-2000s.
Funnily enough The Middle came on in Ralphs as i was catching up on this thread. Should have been All The Way (Stay)
My Best Theory came on in the grocery store the other day which I was shocked by, but it made me happy
It's unfortunate that hearing that song anywhere is a surprise. That song should be played daily in Kohl's to this day.
