Discussions about allegations of abuse and the way those allegations are handled are always pretty "salient" to me, but what do I know
I checked the UK iTunes the best way I know how and it wasn't there. Good chance I did it wrong though.
I absolutely agree. The anecdote about changing the very Central Jersey-specific original lyrics in "Biloxi Parish" to the more generalized stuff about heroes and ghosts always struck me as the type of move you would make looking to increase chances of radio airplay 10, 15 or 20 years prior, but was catering or conceding to a system that no longer existed.
Then feel free to post it in the Accountability In Music thread, where everyone but me will read it and be made aware
Nah, I'm good posting it here. Feel free to smash that block button to help keep your head in the sand though.
nope his other partners just said he was nice to him which doesn't prove shit, he could still have been abusive to Chloe, and then he convinced all his friends he's innocent because that's what abusers do
Man, I hate posts like this. It’s been like 3 hours. You’ll have much more time than that to talk about the songs. This stuff is important, and this type of post is dismissive.
Seems like the UK got 555 but everywhere else got the Love Never lyric video? I can't watch the video in my country. Is it a good video?
To be fair, there are at least 3 pages of arguing over these allegations which have nothing to do with Jimmy Eat World. It's absolutely appropriate to bring up the fact that they were on the podcast and make people aware of that, but the rest of that argument/conversation did not belong here. I came to this thread to read about the new record, not be put in a negative headspace first thing in the morning reading some of the absurd shit on the last few pages
Album version of "555" sure is something else. I think I like it a lot, but I'm gonna have to hear the whole song and not just a sample.
Have you tried tweeting the band about it? Might be worth doing if you think they should know and maybe they really didn't know.
All of that stuff is connected to the band now. They have linked their brand to Hardwick's. They have co-signed his behavior. It's no different from bands touring with Tiny Moving Parts or blink-182 being featured on the upcoming XXXTentacion posthumous album. It's a stain on their reputations as both artists and people. So, like, sorry (I guess?) if that puts you in a negative headspace but it is what it is. The "absurd shit" was the result of people trying to make excuses or dismiss survivors instead of just taking the information and reacting appropriately.
First thing I did when I read about it in here. Tweeted at both the band and at Zach Lind's personal account.
also as someone who has survived emotional abuse i gotta say being bombarded with this shit in the jimmy eat world thread is not my idea of a good time. minty was saying some horrendous shit but the condescending thread-swallowing attitude "if you aren't caring and talking about this shit then you are part of the problem" by supposed allies on this board bums me the hell out (i know you don't care about my feelings) and makes for incredibly unproductive discussions
I don't have time to compile literally every major publication's pieces about the entire situation, from when she made her initial post through when Nerdist removed him from the website's masthead, to when he was suspended at AMC, to when he was reinstated at AMC, and on and on. It got extensive coverage for a few months. It's very, very hard to believe that they weren't aware of it.
"Co-signed his behavior" is extreme. I didn't even know who this guy was. It's entirely possible they didn't know. In so many cases the publicist sets these things up and they go where they're told to. I'm just saying-- discussion of allegations, seeing people discredit allegations, etc are heavy/sensitive topics and IMO do not need to be discussed in this thread unless they are directly related to the band members. Everyone is capable of doing their own research on this guy if they so choose. And I agree with your perception of the "absurd shit," and none of it belongs in this thread.
you know about it because you are extremely online. people in this thread didn't know about it at all
This is why I'm avoiding all live versions of new songs until I hear studio versions. Being introduced to a song live before hearing the album version rarely bodes well for me.
