In regards to the length, like, it's barely a minute shorter than Damage. It's not how long you make a record, it's what you do with that time, and Surviving gets a LOT done.
Is 555 the saddest, darkest song Jim has ever written? To me it is definitely up there. Or down there. It's brilliantly heartbreaking.
I think variety can be a big part of it. You don’t want songs bleeding together. Record lengths used to way heavily on the medium it was recorded on to. CD’s kinda changed a lot. Lots of 90’s albums (alternative/rock/etc) are laced with the dreaded term “filler” because they had room and just felt unfocused at times. I think at this point we all just wanna hear Surviving.
Was really hoping for a leak even though I know that's a huge long shot, but these length puns are a great way to pass time. As long as all 10 songs are great, 10 songs is fine. With a lot of other bands I actually do prefer longer albums so there's a better chance there are 10 to 12 songs that I actually like a lot, but that's never a problem with Jimmy Eat World. I don't like when albums are less than 10 short songs though.
Favourites on the album: title track, Criminal Energy, Diamond, Congratulations. Singles are great and honestly All the Way (Stay) is pretty representative of the album as a whole in terms of its immediacy. Chase This Light fans are in for a great time.
I got curious and had to google. This sounds incredible. I'm so glad i'm getting to see them at HMV on release day when I pick up my Vinyl.
I don’t want to hear a song described like how this one has been for the first time in a live YouTube bootleg. Just over a week to go!
Listened to just 30 seconds of the above clip. Audio quality aside, it sounds better than I could've imagined. I need this album now.
