That's a very good review craig. I always love reading your stuff, especially when it's about this band
I'm gonna be honest-- I've never listened to the self-titled, so I will do so tonight and report back with an un-bias opinion. Clearly there are strong feelings about it on both sides haha
Definitely the best review I've seen of the album. Very well-written an interesting and so nicely organised in terms of flow and structure. Thanks for that. Can't wait for this Friday.
still on such a high from seeing them last night. i swear i wanna like, follow them on a tour some year i could watch this band every night for the rest of my life
Man, this is so great. Love this quote. "The distinction is crucial, underlining the difference between a man bitter because he lost love and a man who feels blessed just to have experienced it in the first place." Cannot wait any longer for this record.. thanks! Great review.
Unfortunately I think they've given away too much already. I definitely don't think they will stream it 'til it's out. Gutted though, I can't wait. By the way, You With Me has grown on me sooooo much since I first heard it. I remember being a little negative on it before and now I really, really like it. Still don't know what a pillow landscape is but still, that chorus and the synths are great. I'm hoping that You Are Free will grow on me in the same way. Can't wait for Integrity Blues (the song). I want to hear his voice really soar again. Love Don't Wait is amazing for how his voice soars and I'm hoping that Integrity Blues contends with that.
a lot of people seemed to know the words to sure and certain last night. pretty sure i was the only one who knew every word to you with me though
Interesting. I always think it of being really zoomed in on a girl with her head on a pillow, so much that you can see her pores. Like you're an ant on the pillow or something and the pillow is a landscape. If I could just find a meaning in that line that makes sense to me then the song will be so much easier to enjoy.
I am still completely enamored with Sure and Certain. That bridge is quintessential JEW and it makes my heart soar.
It's just the landscape of the pillow, people! noun: landscape; plural noun: landscapes; modifier noun: landscape 1. all the visible features of an area of countryside or land, often considered in terms of their aesthetic appeal.
I mean if you're interpreting it literally duh. I'm just commenting on the imagery it elicits in my head
Haha, I know. I think of it as the pillow being a "landscape" because there's so much tension between them that although they're sleeping in the same bed, they feel miles apart. Just my personal interpretation from day one. Something as small and simple as a pillow that they sleep on is suddenly this huge "landscape.."
Not to kill the camaraderie vibe but I listened to Invented again last night and.. it just doesn't work for me. As an album, its cohesive enough, but the tracks alone just don't stack up against the rest of JEW's material. If it were any other band I'd be skipping through the first 4-5 tracks.
Hmmm I like this interpretation a lot! You might have solved my problem. I'll have to find out next time I listen to the song. But generally though, I don't tend to like the word "landscape". Kind of overused word for describing something that's ambient/beautiful/epic. Agalloch use it in like 5 different songs and ruined the word for me for when anyone else uses it in lyrics.
I've been interpreting "pillow landscape" as "a landscape of pillows", i.e. a bed with way too many damn pillows on it –
Thanks guys, really appreciate it. Can't wait to read all of the reactions to this album in a few days.
Wait... I just now learned that "Hear You Me" is about the same exact thing as Weezer's "Mykel and Carli". Is this common knowledge?!!?
Invented is incredible and it's songs are incredible. Invented, Evidence, Littlething, Mixtape, Heart Is Hard To Find.... All top tier Jew songs
