Futures is a very hopeful and comforting record for me too. You have to be willing to not love your list. Haha
Literally in the process of putting this list together My Sundown hit me hard for the first time ever. I've always found that song to be a downer ending to an exceptional pop record, but when the harmonies came in this time near the end it finally clicked with me. The text painting of the faint "I wanna be so much more than this" underneath the repeated "but no one cares" hits home for me. It's the lack of empathy and human connection. It's the striving for someone who will allow you to become better than you are, the same teetering between hopelessness and optimism that I find in "The World You Love," and especially on the new record. That tightrope is ever-present on their records.
"My Sundown" is an all-time great. Definitely feels like a counterpart to Integrity Blues in that it's all about trying to be better for yourself and not for anyone/everyone else.
I feel like it's hard to fit openers and closers into playlists unless they're opening or closing them, respectively (and cause a bunch of my friends wanna get into JEW and I made this playlist to show them and I hate spoiling openers or closers before a listen to the full album) Also, there is no word in this language for the feeling I get when the full band kicks in on Invented. Maybe the best part of any JEW song
I said pretty much the same thing either here or on Twitter a while back. It feels like the whole album is building to that moment. Just an immaculately constructed record.
I'm interested what is going to come of this. Looks like some sort of orchestral version is going to be recorded or played live in some capacity.
Or, those are the strings from the record when they recorded it and they're just saying the album the title track shares a name of is coming soon.
Haha, they actually posted an extended picture of the sheet music a while ago explaining that it was from when they were tracking strings in April
Bleed American doesn't quite get enough love. Mainstream appeal aside, it's got some of their strongest tracks period and hardly a weak spot.
