That said, if I did this (will eventually) I think we'd have four of the top ten in common - 23, Kill, Invented, Carry You
That is a song I have never really cared for, and it's constant presence in their live show at the expense of better songs makes me like it less.
It probably won't change my mind in how I write it, but out of curiosity, I'm writing my review for this album right now and I was wondering if people would want more of a straight music and lyric breakdown like a standard album review or a sort of personal connection story (like how my Microwave review was??) Because this album and it's symbolizing of my connection to my closest friends from college is really significant in my mind right now and I want to write about it, but I don't know if anyone is particularly interested in reading it.
also, I'm planning on doing the post-Static Prevails list soon too and I'm probably going to hate my list but it'll be fun to do.
im including static on my list bc i love static personally i almost always prefer more personal reviews over traditional ones, but thats just me
It'd be impossible for me list my favorite songs by this band (my favorite still) in any order. However, I can say that the song that actually got me into this band was Rockstar. Great song that will always be at the top for me with this band, but I wonder if I got into this band without hearing that first how would I feel. I also am someone who wishes Tom was lead vocals more again. Some of my favorite songs by this band are actually with him.
Static songs would be in a lump at the bottom, and I'm having a hard time thinking of Clarity songs I would rank higher than anything from the other albums
I think there is definitely a way to tie some personal experience and anecdotes to the themes of this record.
Personal reviews do absolutely nothing for me. I'm going to have my own personal experience with the album so I have zero use for them. Tell me about what the band is accomplishing and why it's an important record in their discography, give me context for the songs and what sonic direction they take. Personal stories are for blogs imo and really aren't "reviews"
I also prefer reviews that focus more on lyrical content and themes than the musical direction of the album, but that's kinda beside the point
Holy shit. Yeah I just started putting it on without knowing today was the day. Freaky shit.... Came out my freshman year....of college. Fuck
I saw the Futures Tour 2 years ago today. That tour is still really important to me and is one of my favorite moments of college. It came during my last year of college when I was still in a really transitional time and had no clue what I wanted to do with my future, but while that record has a dark feel to a lot of you, that record has always hinged on an optimism about whatever lies ahead. A sort of open-road night time drive feel that has drawn me to escapism records ever since I heard Born To Run for the first time.
I made it ten songs into my list and gave up. I can't do this. I made a Spotify best of/intro to playlist with my three favorites from each album (barring the opening songs and closing two) that I'm pretty proud of
