ive said before that i didnt like you are free and hated the chorus. its grown on me a little bit, i wouldnt say i adamently hate it now. but i have to say im just completely in love with the verses. so beautifully, sung, such nice lyrics and melody. one of my favourite JEW verses in recent memory.
I agree with ya minty. i'm just not feeling it. I like Get Right except the bridge could be better lyrically. Sure and Certain is pretty good but I do like the bridge. So far I'm more excited for this than I was Damage. I'm really ready to here Pol Roger and Pass the baby.
You talking about You Are Free or You With Me here? You Are Free verses are some of my favorite on the album so if you're judging from the live rip of the song that is out there I would wait till you have album version and lyrics in Hand
I'm talking about You Are Free. My reference is this live recording: September 12, 2016 @ Lido – Berlin, Germany This is much better than the recordings on YouTube. It was recorded with a binaural microphone so with headphones it's as close to the sound of actually being in the venue as you'd probably get. Sound quality is very good. I will wait 'til I have the album version to pass judgement but from what I've heard from the live recording (and from seeing it live myself), those verses are so beautiful. They keep popping in my head and have given me butterflies more than once. One of those feelings that only JEW can really accomplish for me and even then it's rare that they capture it so well. Also, this album has to be excellent if it has any hope of justifying keeping My Enemy as a B-side. God damn that song is awesome.
That's good to hear. I hope there are some songs with a hard edge on them like Bleed American or Nothingwrong.
I'm glad you made this comment because I can take it back to the band to support my hesitancy on playing songs live before they are out. LOL. Album out in less than two weeks.
Hi Zach, you rock! Saw Jim in Montana last summer, would love to see the full band here or in Spokane sometime. Stoked for the signed lithograph, will you draw me a picture of a dog? Thanks, bye.
I sincerely hope that you don't take any negative comments to heart. As I said I will of course wait for the studio version to form my opinion of the song, and besides that, the song's chorus has certainly grown on me just from listening to the live recording. And sometimes the best songs require the most effort and patience on the listener's part anyway. I'm always going to seek out any new material from you guys, even if it is in poor recording quality (sorry about that), but that wont affect my excitement for the final product and nor should it anyone else's. The first time I heard Chase This Light (the song) was from a live recording in 2006 (I think; it was a solo show Jim did before CTL came out) where the guitar was almost non-existent in the mix, and I thought I really disliked the song. Then, not long after, a better recording of the exact same performance appeared online and instantly it became my favourite song. So really, what do I know?
just play the demo versions of new songs live so when the new songs are released everyone will love them even more!
I meant You With Me, it is taking a few listens. It grows on me more each listen though. I do like the opening though. And I like "You Are Free".
Hahaha this is amazing. Shut him down. The new album rules Zach! Your band continues to impress and progress. Can't wait to hopefully catch you guys live.
