Clarity > Futures > Invented > Bleed American > Damage Haven't listened to Chase This Light yet, even though I know I need to.
I remember it being viewed negatively back then, but I wasn't paying much attention to JEW back then.
yeah let's talk about the album that we literally know nothing about yet! Ok I wonder if it's gonna be heavier like the clip implies, and what would a heavy JEW record even sound like I wonder?
im not too worried. Jimmy Eat World albums are so good at being diverse, yet maintaining an "album sound / feel"
I was just thinking that no matter how heavy or riff-driven the music is, it will sound like JEW because of Jim's voice. I'm curious to see if that clip is at all indicative of the album.
well lets look at some of the pre-release singles from the past to see how "indicative" they were of their perspective albums. - The Middle <--- no way. way more upbeat and positive / happy than really... anything else the band has done, let alone on Bleed American. - Pain <--- maybe a tiny tiny bit. it showed that Futures would be darker maybe. but the whole album doesnt have that heavy and dark thing going at once. maybe Pain couldve been indicative of songs like "Nothing Wrong" or "Just Tonight". not the whole album though, thats for sure. - Big Casino <--- probably the most indicative single the band ever out out. - "My Best Theory" <--- heavy(ish-whatever) single on a not heavy record. - "I Will Steal You Back" <--- probably the second most indicative single behind Big Casino. gave a decent clue of what the record would sound like.
Yeah they are just about the best at being diverse/progressing yet always sounding like Jimmy Eat World
I don't remember Chase This Light being viewed negatively at all. I think the consensus was that it wasn't as good as Futures, but I still think most fans dug it. Especially "Dizzy."
I don't remember "The Middle" being a prerelease single for BA. I think they only released the title track to radio before the album release, "The Middle" came a few months later. I remember because I loved that song when it was all over the radio after my freshman year of college and was "pissed" when I bought the album that summer and nothing else was as heavy, haha.
Yeah, "The Middle" was released as a single in the fall and didn't really blow up until the next spring, if I'm correctly recalling when that was on the radio all the time.
I think they are both a really good representation of their respective sounds. Futures is a great darker rock record, and Chase This Light is a great lighter, poppier record.
I really hope Jimmy Eat World hops (no pun intended) on the bands releasing beers bandwagon and releases "Integrity Booze."
