I've literally never heard of Busted before now and I quite liked this little tune. Although I do understand the Simple Plan comparisons; fuck, actually it sounds almost identical to "California" by Wave. But yeah how about that new Jimmy Eat World album?
I don't think Simple Plan is that unfair a comparison for Busted, actually. And I don't mean that in a negative way at all, but they're in similar wheelhouses.
To clarify: when I said Jimmy Eat World was the last release I'm interested in this year, I meant by release day. I'm also excited for Paper Route, Dance Gavin Dance, Kevin Devine, and Lazarus (Bowie's musical. Cast recording plus his 3 final songs)
I will try to temper my usually overly forthright opinions. But i thought it odd that they were getting time on here. Imean i shouldnt as this place does cover a lot of pop music. But i remember when Busted came out in he UK they were lambasted by pop punk fans as they were a manufactured boy band created by the labels to cash in on a trend. They didnt write any of their own songs or play live. When Blink 182 fans are getting on the elitist pedastall you know somethings very off. I think charlie gradually changed that and ultimately left to do his other stuff. He was once asked a while after leaving why he did Busted and his answer was somthing along the lines of "i was 16 and someone offered a lot of money". This is why i found it quite odd that he has rejoined. Im sure the new busted is a different operation to the old one. But as an elitist it offends me to see their name mentioned among other bands (simple plan excluded as i have a similarly dim opinion of them) on here that wrote their own songs and paid their dues to get where they are.
To get this thread back on topic. The more i listen to sure and certain the better it gets. And it started good. This is the first Jew album ive been excited for since Futures came out.
I think they're light years away in terms of quality though and the version of Busted that exists today is also very different to the Busted they used to be, they sound nothing like Simple Plan today.
The thing is most of the elitist pop punk fans, which in itself is hilarious, were mostly misinformed. Matt and James were in a band together and even wrote What I Go to School For before they got signed. Charlie auditioned for the band when they had a label if that's what you call manufactured.. also they wrote all of their own songs and played live. James has actually made a career writing songs for other people after Busted broke up. I also think Busted wrote better music than most, if not all, of the band's I'm guessing you're talking about.
"Good Charlotte said they like McFly Is half their fanbase gonna cry? It's so pathetic, dry your eyes When you gonna realise a tune's a tune? I don't know why the metalheads want us to die But these days they're all under nine So I'll be fine" I always liked the way James referenced this kind of thing in his second band. I think McFly are great too, way, way better than Good Charlotte, ha.
So Jimmy Eat World are pretty good right. Actually gave Jim Adkins solo stuff a listen last night properly. Good stuff. I've git a feeling the new album will be fairly similar in tone to futures with a night time vibe to it.
I want some big, poppy, CTL choruses. I don't think I'm going to get it, ha. I still think I'm going to like this a good amount though.
My fav stuff on Futures are Polaris, Work, Kill and 23. Hopefully there's at least some stuff like that on here.
I think you'll like the record, but I'm kind of bad at predicting how you will react to things, so who knows.
I like Get Right and Sure and Certain a lot, more than the majority of Invented and Damage. I kind of wish the chorus of S&C was a bit bigger but I still like it a lot. I love the bridge to that song so if there's anything else like that on the album I'll be happy. Idk, I'm excited to hear it.
I think you'll like this album. Your favorite song is gonna be you are free or through. Let's revisit this prediction in 2 months
It feels like it belongs in the Futures/SOMST era to me. I think that more and more as I continue to listen.
