Invented still doesn’t click with me. At this point I just don’t see it ever doing so. I’ll continue to listen to it when I do a full discography listen, but that’s it.
I totally realise not everyone can have the same emotional attachment to the album but damn - that piano in Littlething, going perfectly into maybe the band's best solo - the lyrics in Movielike - Evidence absolutely blowing your nuts off 2 minutes in - the cascading harmonies going everywhere in the bridges of Heart and Cut - Tom Linton lead vox fuck yeah - the way Jim and Courtney's vocals fall in and out of sync on the title track, especially the second verse - actually; forget all these other points just the title track
I was not a fan of Invented when it came. In the years since, I've come to really, really adore that record. It's so damn good. And the title track is one of their best songs.
It's a good album but I couldn't agree less on those two points. Evidence is as boring as JEW gets, and Linton showed on his only track why he's not a lead vocalist
I was so mad... the first time I saw JEW was on the Invented tour and they started playing the title track like 2 dates after the Chicago show. That shit would have been EPIC.
i've def posted this here before but sometimes to make invented a more seamless listen i remove "my best theory," "higher devotion," and "action" from the tracklisting (even though i love all three)
Coffee and cigarettes is one of my least favorite JEW songs. Just never have liked it. I like every other song on that album though.
Evidence has gotta be one of their most dynamic tracks - boring? really? I disagree about as strongly as I can I can see not liking Tom's vocals, although I've always had a soft spot for them. He's a got a real grit that's totally different to Jim and it's awesome
Some blasphemous stuff going on right now but if we can all agree heart is hard to find is flawless we good
the production on invented is so good, one of the few rock records i can think of that sounds... effervescent
my man! hoping you dig Static Prevails cos it's insanely underrated. like Claire, Digits, Anderson Mesa and In The Same Room are up there in their discog
honestly Tom would have slayed "Lean" and "Step One", possibly better than Jim did. I hope they give him some more leads in the future yea
Static Prevails is such a great scrappy record. It's not as polished or mature (obviously) as their later stuff but I still jam that thing all the time. Rockstar always has a permanent place in my heart, in the place where teenage me still lives on. I will belt that shit out in the car regularly.
I always thought Evidence was underrated. It’s definitely one of my top Jimmy songs. Might only be my fourth favorite on Invented though, that album is stacked
Evidence goes nowhere for me. Is there more than 3 chords in that song? I think they'd work better on a different track - "Action Needs An Audience" just wasn't it
