jim has said how he thought the middle was like a joke when they wrote it because it was so easy and they hardly put any work into it but thats the beauty of it, its just a simple pop song
The title track singlehandedly elevates Invented to a standing on my list that it probably doesn't earn otherwise.
Invented just brings back great memories for me. I got that album, Dark Is The Way, and Ludo's Prepare the Preparations on a Friday night and then took them to my buddy's place and we listened to them for hours and hours.
i got invented and illuminaudio around the same time and had them both in my car for like three years
Clarity is still a fantastic album, even if I don't listen to it as much as I used to. I'd take Futures and Integrity Blues over it, as I've built strong connections to those albums as wholes. Clarity would probably be right behind them though. Either it or Chase This Light. It's really just too difficult to rank this band's discography beyond my top 2 because it's really just whatever album I'm listening to more at the time. I have an easier time listing them in tiers. Tier 1: Futures Integrity Blues Tier 2: Clarity Bleed American Chase This Light Tier 3: Invented Damage
For Me This Is Heaven A Praise Chorus Kill Dizzy Invented Those would be my top 5, though not necessarily in that order. Not sure where I’d go after that.
Are you going to live your life wondering Standing in the back, looking around? Are you going to waste your time thinking How you've grown up or how you missed out? Things are never going to be the way you want Where's it going to get you acting serious? Things are never going to be quite what you want Even at 25, you got to start sometime
Tier 1: Clarity, Futures Tier 2: BA, CTL, Invented, Damage, IB Tier 3: SP That wasn’t really useful at all.
Oh my goodness, I also had Dark Is the Way at the same time! I had a 40 minute commute to college at the time that those albums came out, and I would get to the second-to-last songs on both albums as I pulled into the parking lot. And for Invented, it was great because the road that led into the campus was Houston Street...So that album and song are, like, permanently attached to that time in my life, and Dark Is the Way too.
A Praise Chorus has some of my favorite Jimmy lyrics of all time...This song is really important to me, especially as I get older, because, like...life obviously didn't go the way that I thought/hoped it would when I was 18, but you know...there's still hope for it to get better and there's still no limit to the things that I can accomplish, even if I didn't necessarily do them in the same order/at the same age that everyone else did.
Those albums both have a similar motif, imo. Like, big really well-produced muscular rock records. Super shiny sounding and very polished. Know what I mean? haha
I'll have a go at my current top 10, but it changes a fair bit: 1. Polaris 2. Be Sensible 3. Cautioners 4. Seasonal 5. Disintegration 6. Always Be 7. 23 8. Anderson Mesa 9. Just Watch the Fireworks 10. Sure and Certain Honourable mentions: Pol Roger Please Say No How'd You Have Me Nothingwrong Edit: I just keep adding to the honourable mentions. I think that might be cheating.
fuck appreciation should really be in my top ten somewhere can my top ten have 20 songs this band is special???
in no order my favorite jimmy records are clarity bleed american futures disintegration chase this light invented damage integrity blues and if u have a problem with that well then i am truly sorry!!!!
