I was really happy this topped the staff list too. Not something I saw coming, with both The Hotelier and The 1975 in contention, but JEW just ran away with it.
The title track on Integrity Blues remains my favourite song from that album and one of my favourite JEW songs overall. It's actually the most interesting and emotional song they've ever written imo. It's one of those songs where the words perfectly reflect my own life experiences over the last few years, and I guess that's why it's so hard hitting for me personally.
The only weak spot on Chase This Light is the part where "Open Bar Reception" isn't on it!!! All kidding aside, I don't really like "Electable" or "Gotta Be Somebody's Blues" much at all, but the next two tracks "Feeling Lucky" and "Here It Goes" are two of my favorites.
I don't think there are any weak spots on CTL at all, but I do think Be Sensible and Open Bar Reception are better than a good handful of songs that made the album. Great album though with a couple great b-sides
Gotta be somebody's blues is quite a nice break between the tracks I think! They seem to have a track like that on most albums!
Yup, Here It Goes is a top 10 JEW song for me, maybe top 5. One of the tightest, catchiest songs I've ever heard. It should've gone massive on the radio
This is what always confused me, that is such a natural single choice for them and far as I know it was never even promoted as one. They seem to prefer being known for stuff like "Pain", "My Best Theory" or "Get Right", which are all pretty similar in sound and nowhere near as fun as "Here It Goes".
Maybe because it's so much poppier than their normal fare and they thought it would've been from too far left field to market as a single? Who knows, but the song is a blast and deserved to get more attention.
I enjoyed IB so much that I go out of my way not to listen to it. I want it to stay fresh enough so that when I listen to it again it still feels new and surprising. It's fucking weird cause I will replay albums over and over again at launch, but there is something different about this one that I want to keep special.
When I found out that the producer of this record and paramore were the same it made a ton of sense. Best sounding drums on both records
Hey look! More than one music video for this cycle!! This gave me that fuzzy feeling that only Jimmy eat world can give me
Oh yeah, I love that song too. Was listening to this yesterday and it's such a fantastic album. It somehow sounds different to everything they have done, yet retains feeling EXACTLY like 2016/17 Jimmy Eat World should.
This album is growing on me. It wasn't really clicking with me at first but now I am starting to like it more overall.
Teebs is there anything you didn't like this year? You're all over twitter and in every thread saying how good everything is.
This was from last year ha. Also I'm commenting on records I'm currently listening to. There are things I didn't like. I was disappointed with free throw, Conor Oberst although I really love salutations I don't revisit ruminations much, the daisyhead lp was a letdown, didn't like the have mercy record at all, thought the flogging molly lp wasn't their best work... there's more I just don't like to talk about the negative stuff as much when there's so much good stuff
