Clarity remains my favorite JEW record and will always be kept safe in my heart. Wish I could put into words the feelings I have for that album, but really all I can say is that it makes me feel warm, thoughtful, and understood. I treasure each one of those 13 songs so, so much.
So anyone have any idea what Pass The Baby is about? I'm still working on my little project above (and still accepting suggestions!) and I'm trying to parse out what exactly Jim is talking about here. I kind of lean towards speaking out against misogyny in entertainment industries although I'm not sure how the actual phrase "Pass The Baby" fits into that.
Interesting. I feel like he usually defers meaning. But I love it when writers give their thoughts on their songs.
I think he's done it a few times. I agree. It's always interesting to hear the writer's meaning versus the fan meaning
Truth. I respect the artistic ability to create something that can be interpreted and related to in different ways, but sometimes it's nice to know what kind of headspace they were in while making it too.
I always prefer not knowing. Especially for some of my all time favorite songs. Can be really interesting to know but could also really turn me off if it's something ridiculous.
I take Pass the Baby pretty literally, as the entertainment industry is notorious for sexualizing and ruining the lives of young pop stars inexperienced in the industry.
I take it literally, as Jim passes an infant to another person, and experiences a moment of existential revelation
this is a more articulate extrapolation on my post, i totally agree interesting. i guess that can feed into the misogyny/sexualization of young women in entertainment media.
This album still holds up really well. God I love this band so much and I hope they make another album or two.
Saw these guys 2 nights ago and it was amazing. "Pass The Baby" was unreal live. The ending blew me away.
i thought someone here said it has something to do with the economy and "pass the baby" is an economics phrase or something. but above makes more sense
oh wait, it's totally about famous people using their fame for sex and just general advantages in life The use of first person tells me it's not about sexualiziation of pop stars. Because the song is from the "pop star's" perspective
All that comes to mind for Pass the Baby is the end scene of the Dead Zone. That HAS to be what it means.
Went back to this album today and it's so good. Can't believe I really strongly disliked this on the first two listens. Easily their best since Futures.
i basically lump it in with futures and chase this light. don't really prefer one over the other, and they're all perfect albums in my eyes.
