This is a good post. This is a true post. I agree with it all. I don't reeeeally agree with any JEW song being pretty bad but I'll let that slide because whatever. Just mention next time that the song Invented is GOAT
thanks to my good pal @Zac Djamoos i've discovered the beauty of switching the order of the 2nd and 3rd songs on Invented. ill probably continue to listen to Invented in its original, intended order, as thats how i prefer to do things, but it was pretty neat to see how a little change can go a long way. i liked tracks 2-4 a lot more than i usually do, which is saying something, as i already love those songs as is. something about keeping the soft mood of "The Heart Is Hard To Find" with "Evidence" and having the post rock intro of "Higher Devotion" be accented by "My Best Theory" coming right before it
"Coffee and Cigarettes" is amazing if only for the detail of the cassette tapes. Also, the "solo" in "The End Is Beautiful" is one of the prettiest moments in their whole catalog.
I don't know why you guys don't like "Higher Devotion." I can feel the tension in the room when he sings those lines.
"Higher Devotion" is my favorite least favorite on the record. The other two I mentioned I never put on unless I'm listening to the record from top to bottom. Except I used to listen to "Evidence" a lot but for some reason it doesn't do anything for me anymore. The instrumental bridge/"solo" in HD is so epic though
I don't think Higher Devotion has a post rock intro in the least bit, but it's a cool song that gets more flack than it should though. But it's a bottom tier song on the album still
Ahhh, I understand now - the first vinyl pressings of the album used different cover art that had a lot more going on, but by the time the 10th anniversary edition was released, they brought the cover in line with the CD artwork and used it going forward. Weirdly, I've been a JEW fan since after Futures came out - think it was 05/06-ish when I heard that album for the first time - and I've always associated that collage artwork with being the proper Clarity cover. Huh. Thanks for clearing that up!
I noticed that Goodbye Sky Harbour made a return to the set in California. From what I understand it's not exactly a rarity, but that song has tremendous personal significance and if they play it in Dublin I will actually cry.
Just watched this the other day and was literally in awe of the exact same thing. I don't recall ever hearing him with rasp like that. So much feeling..
Damn, I've watched countless live performances and been to so many shows, and this is the first I've heard him get THAT aggressive too. I hope this band never retires
it's nice seeing friends/a dope band get on a show as big as this?? didn't even expect there to be a decent opener on this and instead we get one of my favorites haha imagine if felix culpa toured with brand new
i guess just from seeing a lot of bands on prawns level do tours or shows like this before and not get that much of a notable bump afterwards, it's kinda lost its impact for me
the noticeable bump doesn't even matter, it's just dope to see a band I love play to a bunch of people who won't know them like I'll probably be one of 10 people at the show who know them. If that. That's so cool
that's fair. i wasn't trying to be antagonistic. i'd just rather a band play a show to fans than people who are largely uninterested and don't know the band. it's cool though, wasn't trying to start an argument
my neighbor was headbanging to "how you remind me" today while doing yard work. thought that would be relevant to this thread.
