You've never listened to Augustana? Don't want to get too far off topic in this thread, but go listen to Can't Love, Can't Hurt right now.
Really great album. Really not a big fan of the rest of their output. Saw them live once too and really put me off their newer stuff
This album is pretty cool. Thanks for the suggestion command edit: ugh wtf the emoji's go over the spoiler bar. haha
I oughta listen to more of their stuff. Boston is great. Got one of their CDs up in my room somewhere
Get Right is good but Sure and Certain is pretty much everything I could have wanted from a new JEW single. So excited.
Thankfully the album artwork is along the same line of the singles one. That said, I preferred both of them. This would be better with a smaller font and with a medium shot, allowing more background to be seen. Anyway, this joins Futures' and Invented' aesthetic as a perfect encapsulation of what Jimmy Eat World is for me. Contemplative loneliness and hopeless romanticism in the midst of a city at night that somehow manages to feel homelike. This quote I love from Victor Hugo kinda sums it: "Melancholy is the pleasure of being sad".
I agree with the observations of the aesthetics, but I'll add: The first thing that stood out to me with the new album cover, is the fact that, while it has a dreary vibe to it, the woman's bright jacket sort of pierces it all. I'm curious to see how the album reflects this. I usually don't dissect album covers much, but JEW seems to really get it right every time.
Futures is probably my favorite album cover ever. Captures the vibe of that record so well, and is a beautiful image to boot.
Yeah Futures and Invented have my favorite album covers ever. What is the CTL cover supposed to be it looks like an avocado
the thing I love about the invented cover is that it drives me crazy because I can't figure out what room she's going into. sometimes it looks like a balcony, other times a bathroom, other times a lab. kind of goes along with the character writing on that record
When I worked at Chilis we dealt with many avocados so yeah if it's more than 1 color then it's fucked stupid autocorrect
I believe from the style of doors that the lady on the cover of Invented is walking into the kitchen of a restaurant. The dress and hairstyle always made me think she was Asian. I like the ambiguity of their covers in that sense, like someone is living their life and we get to watch/listen. Also why Damage's artwork sucked so heavily.
I can say with complete honesty that I have never once mistaken the peacock feather on CTL's cover for an avocado haha
