I don't think anything this band has done is objectively bad because they've got such talent, but Damage was certainly their worst effort. The songs were monotonous and the production did absolutely nothing to help them out.
I don't get much into JEW now but I probably listen exclusively to Static Prevails and Bleed American with Futures occasionally thrown in so what do I know lol.
I don't mean this condescendingly at all so please nobody take it as such. But I wonder how old those are that don't like Damage. It's very much an "adult" breakup album. What I'm saying is it probably resonates more for those that are older and have had to deal with heartbreak at the older age. Or they just don't like it... which is fine, but you are wrong and I hate you!
Yeah me and you have literally the opposite opinion when it comes to JEW. Clarity and Damage are my top two
Those shakers texturing the guitar strums at the beginning. And the light electronic beats pattering underneath. I feel so many feelings with this one. Perfect marriage of production and songwriting.
Damage isn't my fav, but I love hearing defenses. It has its place. Appreciation is classic. Also, I took an NME session where Jim plays Rihanna acoustic and added distortion to gruff it up for texture and I listen to that a lot.
I dig this. But I do wish the chorus packed a harder punch. I never really gave any time to Damages. It's weird because I really liked I Will Steal.... As I get older I just struggle to listen to everything that comes out so I sometimes wait until end of year lists to mop up the good stuff for me. I havent even listened to the new B&C album yet and their last 2 were top 5 AOTYs for me when they each came out.
I'll wait for the whole album, especially if it's an opening track, but I'm excited as hell! Listened to Damage yesterday, and it's really good in my opinion, just quite probably my least favorite as well.
