That joker is really good once you unlock it, really strong chip joker especially for high card builds
It’s not. It’s the time passed, and more importantly, the time passed with no indication of him repeating the gross behaviors. Despite earning high income, his family sticking with him indicates to me he’s working on himself and taken steps to reform. At least, based on the information we have, that’s the best decision I can make. Jesse’s crime was not playing music for money, so it is not similar when I agree that Madoff should have never been allowed to manage money again. Music gave him a platform to more easily connect with younger women. But I do make a distinction between his role as an artist and his crime. I can still easily see how some do not, and respect that view.
The beings that come out of the woodwork on Brand New related news posts are always fascinating, in a sad/scary/MAGA/QAnon kinda way.
But you keep lumping people into groups that, best I can see, people aren't in. There is no one here saying the fuckwit in As I Lay Dying "deserves" to still be making and playing music. The standard is consistent: given my ability to wave a magic wand they wouldn't still be touring and CONTINUING TO ABUSE PEOPLE RIGHT NOW: This dude is trash. You've invented a double standard in your head and put a bunch of people in this thread into some category none of us are actually in. And, there, that's actually what I was getting at. The difference of opinion when stated outright, has this sort of victim blaming nonsense in it: "and how 16-17 years old girls engaging fangirl mode" - those are very clear differences of opinion! And pretending that what you're standing for is something different is silly. I have no problem saying that I have a difference of opinion than you when you spell it out. I don't think you know what hypocrisy means.
So a few things here. 1)maybe he hasn’t repeated gross behavior because he was removed from his platform. Do you think that might be the case. Because, credible or not, there was a story from a year or so ago where he was trying to give guitar lessons to kids and a mom knew about him and shut that shit down. Not saying he was trying to offend again, but do you understand how just putting them in that position again makes women or those with young girls uncomfortable? 2) Jesse’s crime was made possible because of his making music. Same as Madoff. Could Madoff have defrauded investors without being head of the NASDAQ? For sure, but him being the head made it all the more easier. If Jesse abused young girls by being a musician, maybe he’s not strong enough to be a musician without giving into the temptation(s) (he’s almost all but admitted as such on some songs after looking back) and thus should be kept away from the stage.
I have encountered a large swathe of people from all walks of life who are presumed innocent because they have not been convicted. I can assure you that you would not leave your daughter, son, sister, brother, whatever in the same room with them alone. It doesn’t make them any less guilty on a factual level of committing illegal sexual acts and having the predilection to do so. I get wanting to believe your heroes are infallible but it’s quite clear that he and too many others in the scene have crossed some unforgivable lines.
Someone remind me if I’m remembering this correctly: The Voting Rights Act was struck down by the Supreme Court because it “worked” and there was no more need for it, correct?
Do people think he made an admission because he was under duress or something? I’m genuinely curious.
all fair takes, man. Maybe fading into the background prevented more, but you’d be wildly speculating. Was there not over a decade(?) of him in the scene without any reports of it happening again? (tbf, sexual assault is drastically underreported). Over 1m people listen each month on Spotify, I think Jesse has had opportunity to reach out to young fans online if his previous addictions were not rehabilitated. Though, I’m not so dense as to think opportunity won’t be increased being an active band. You seem to think he’s likely to commit crimes again and you personally don’t feel like his public apology and show of remorse was sufficient. I think 20 years with no evidence of repeating his actions are sufficient enough to be given another chance as a band. I believe his infrastructure for support are greatly enhanced from when he committed his crimes. Your opinion on redemption not being possible is surely a fair one too, given the nature of what he did. We appear to wholeheartedly agree on most things personally about Jesse Lacey. I just feel differently about his ability to perform going forward. You’re not automatically arguing with a low IQ pervert because we have different views on one aspect of this situation. Neither of us is more “correct” than the other, remember that.
that’s Fuct Up Kid the incompetence here is staggering. Jason already blew it up, so I’ll leave it at that. That coach guy is getting dumber. Man, what a thread.
okay, but again, what I, and others, are trying to get at is you think it's fine to give him a second chance for free, whereas we think second chances are earned, and more importantly, that the survivors feelings on the matter dictate whether or not that second chance is even an option.
I really like this thread, its nice that the fan are getting a show and its also good they are getting shamed appropriately for wanting it.
totally respect that, and can see in this thread, my view of supporting a return is the minority. I just don’t want called names for having a different opinion. That’s it. Especially when I agree Jesse sucks. The survivors views should definitely be heard loud and clear, if they so wish for it to be. Have they said anything since the initial time they shared their stories?
You won't believe this but many publicly known survivors have been being harassed by Brand New fans which has limited their online presence Brand New has said nothing about this
You guys act like the band could somehow prevent that. How? With a post? A letter to the unknown twitter account who harrased a victim. It's like bullettin in the school hallway about how school shootings are bad could prevent school shootings... The idea is cool but it's not really working.
I agree, it's one of the many reasons I have no desire to pretend the band is rehabilitated. Again, I do not care if people listen to or have positive memories with the band. But the reality of watching someone hurt, and re-hurt through silence of people that had power to help, is inexcusable to me. I'll quote again from 2018: Abuse of Power and the Legacy of Jesse Lacey Some of his intensely loyal fan base has since done everything in their power to victim blame, slut shame, and discredit the women coming forward- and Jesse and his posse of opportunistic hangers-on have said NOTHING. Their silence speaks volumes, y’all. My biggest fear now is that Brand New will tour again in 2018. Quite frankly, in any other job, in any other industry — Jesse would have been fired and blacklisted. But this is the music industry and Brand New clearly doesn’t have a fucking HR department. Musicians can harass and assault young people (Chris Brown), and not only go along with their lives without proper consequence (David Bowie), but also continue to PROFIT off of their product (Michael Jackson).
You're telling me you'd still be acting this exact same way toward the women if the band had told you, flat out, in explicit terms, "believe them, do not harass them"? And to go further, it's the bare minimum they could have done when they were ASKED TO DO IT from one of the people hurt. Even if you think it would do nothing, that should be secondary to the fact that the some of the very people hurt asked for it. The talk moving on needs to reconcile with them being presented with a way to do the right thing, asked explicitly by someone being harassed and doxxed online, and they were silent.
And this never happened, hopefully yet. There goes again the double standard in the music industry, not here i know here only 100% good person music is being liked.
