I fully reject the reductionist argument of there being "two groups" and the definition used to define them. But I will forever not understand the argument that one can only make money doing this. Is it the easiest path to making more money? Yes. But maybe the consequence of the actions (and what still bothers me: never saying a word to the people harassing the women that came forward), is you don't get the easiest path to making money anymore. Answer emails like the rest of us or something. Hell, go ghost-write even. There are plenty of ways to make money, even still in the music industry if you really think that's the ONLY talent and capability someone has. So, this argument that somehow by saying "yeah, this sucks" is denying someone the ability to make money, I continue to reject outright. I find this sort of shit so incredible strange. This ... gloating as though you're somehow doing something brave and amazing by listening to a band? Like, why? It's just ... weird behavior. Also, this is a gross misunderstanding of what the presumption of innocence means. Type into ChatGPT your exact post and ask it the flaws. Hell, here I'll do it for you. The argument presented has several flaws that can be highlighted: 1. Misunderstanding of Presumption of Innocence: While the presumption of innocence is a fundamental principle in the legal system, it does not mean that accusations should be dismissed or that discussions about the behavior of individuals are off-limits. The presumption of innocence applies in a court of law, not in public discourse. 2. Deflection of Responsibility: Blaming the parents for not monitoring their teenagers shifts the focus away from the accused individual’s actions. While parental responsibility is important, it does not absolve someone of accountability for their behavior. 3. Conflation of Accusation and Guilt: The argument suggests that because Jesse has not been proven guilty, discussions about his character or potential wrongdoing are unwarranted. However, it is reasonable for people to express concern or discuss the implications of accusations, especially in a community setting. 4. Dismissal of Victims' Voices: By stating that "we just have to let it go," the argument minimizes the experiences and feelings of potential victims. It’s crucial to listen to and support those who come forward with accusations, regardless of the legal outcome. 5. Potential for Defamation: The mention of defamation implies that discussing someone's character based on accusations could lead to legal consequences. However, expressing concerns or opinions based on allegations, especially in a community context, is often protected speech, particularly when discussing public figures or individuals in the community. In summary, the argument oversimplifies a complex issue by relying on legal principles to dismiss valid concerns about behavior, accountability, and the experiences of those involved. It fails to recognize the importance of open dialogue in addressing serious allegations. This is all just so fundamentally common sense, so EASY to do 1/2 a second of research on, that I struggle with understanding how people continue to walk around, my presumption as an adult, and say things like this out loud like it's some golden gotcha.
I only saw them once, and it was the primary reason we drove to Canada and it was very much just…”meh…”
And I’m sorry, but when inundated with a flood of trolls bravely posting “I’ll be listening to their 4th best album, try and stop me” you have to appreciate “well technically the definition of pedophile…” is not the strongest first step towards being seen as credible
A lot of people are coming in here posting because they've realized after years that folks with a Vendetta Against Jesse For Some Reason Have Taken Away Joy From Them That Was Misguided. Maybe Jesse Didn't Do It, But They Got Caught Up In The Me Too Movement
If you can read his post, and read the accusations, and still pretend "he didn't do it," your level of cognitive dissonance is reaching dangerous levels. I do not care if people listen to this band, I don't really even care if they praise this band for what they meant to them; I do not give two shits. But when you get to the point where you're calling the victims liars I draw a line. That's the bullshit that I find so beyond disgusting and why I think the band don't deserve their chance at coming back.
