i really think so too, even if i didnt think he was that great, he's just been associated with the program in such a memorable capacity for so, so long. who knows what his schedule or other commitments look like or if he was ever actually legitimately considered, but it seems like he was the easy pick. this makes it seem like all spring/summer we just sat through a try out period or casting session when they knew the winner all along.
They needed someone who has an “announcer” voice imo. Not really tuning into Jeopardy for personality.
Eh, personality and charisma is definitely a part of it. its the reason i bailed on Rodgers after like 3 episodes, dude was a house plant up there. a few one liners here and there but mostly a dud.
Exactly! He's a household name to all Jeopardy watchers, truly cares about the game, and is wicked smart so can provide some additional knowledge throughout the shows that say, Mike Richards wouldn't be able to tell (without reading from a teleprompter). Plus, it just would have been a cool story to see the greatest Jeopardy player of all time go on to eventually become the host of the show.
I'm so disappointed. I'm sure I'll get used to him over time, but they had a chance to succeed Trebek with someone who is brilliant and a great host, and they went with the corporate pick. I worry about this whole 'expanding' of the brand - they better not taint the OG show.
I wonder if they considered James or Brad for the gig? I don't know if considering them would have been a bad idea or not.
Yup, sounds like a game show host, isn’t really recognizable so it holds the focus on the game, and he was already there. Makes sense to me, if uninspired.
It's just odd they brought Ken on as a consulting producer, which just screamed "hey, we want you around/on our staff so when Alex passes you can become the host" and then just...did not give it to him. He may have had other long term commitments as suggested above, but idk, he was already brought in for one position which makes it seem like he would have been open to the hosting job full time.
i liked him while he was a contestant it but I think i would get so, so sick of James' schtick after a week of hosting lol
They should have had that guy Arthur Chu be the host (joking), he was such an interesting contestant haha
See I thought Buzzy was awful as host. Stiff and awkward. Great contestant, though; but I suppose any of them (not Oz) could've grown into it. Mayim was near the bottom for me, too. Constantly chuckling at the clues got irritating. Honestly my top 2, besides Ken, were Katie Couric and Aaron Rodgers. I even liked Bill Whitaker, even if he was a little sleepy.
