This album is a phenomenal outlet discussing all of the societal issues this country is dealing with right now. Not over political or preachy in any way, either.
I don't think there's such a thing as over political, but I think this and the Kevin Devine albums are best albums with a degree of visibility tackling politics from the view of white people -- it's done carefully, firmly, but with accessibility. I snagged the setlist from the show last night (everyone was great btw) You, In Weird Cities Pash Rash Wave Goodbye Beers Again Alone Festival Song To Be A Ghost Hey Allison Polar Bears or Africa Nausea and then the last few songs from Worry, on the setlist it just says "The 5"
A boardie friend of mine went to see him on the 19th and recorded a v good quality bootleg of the show. All acoustic set, too. Jeff Rosenstock Live 2016-10-19.zip
Seriously. It's such a cohesive piece of work. Staring Out the Window...is perfect. I'm so glad I've became a JR fan in the last year, and checked out all his music. Man is great.
Counting down the days until this show next week. Feels like it's been a really long time since I've seen Jeff, but that's probably just because I saw him like 7 or 8 times last year.
Katie Ellen were really good live, kind of miss some of Chumped's energy but it's not like it's nonexistent in their live show, just spaced out. They might have been the best of the openers, but that might not be fair to say because Cayetana's vocalist had her voice almost completely gone when I saw them
To Be A Ghost is doing wonders for me on a day like today. Really the whole album, but that song specifically digs deep into how I am feeling.
"The ones in power built a dream on guarantees of luxury and sold it like it’s magic to the poor. They trick you into thinking all it takes it just a little bit of effort once your foot is in the door. They brutalize your confidence and drain you of your energy until you’re always tired and unsure. They make a lot of promises but keep on taking everything so you always want more." Like, god damn.
Here's a video of the band's cover of Police on my Back by The Clash, kicked off with I'm Giving up on U2. Loved how they closed with it the other night. If you can get to one of these shows you definitely should, it's a blast!
show was so good last night though i got major blueballs when he went from bang on the door into rainbow but then stopped and didn't do planet luxury
