Caught him w/ Sidney Gish last night. (Missed Gladie.) I like Sidney Gish's music a fair bit, though she had some of the most off putting possibly ironic anti-banter I've encountered in a while. (The teens behind me made merciless fun of her and I kinda couldn't blame 'em.) She can shred though, no question. It was the fourth time I've paid to see Jeff and the third time I actually went...I had a good time as always but the setlist was a bit baffling, even beyond the need to play "the new stuff" (now almost a year old). Major chunk of the gig spent on mid-low tempo numbers, nothing at all pre-We Cool?, the only iffy song on WORRY (sorry "I Did Something Weird Last Night"-heads) and the few selections from poor NO DREAM seemed random. One of those gigs where you realize that you and the artist have very, very different ideas of what their best material is / where their strengths are. Which happens, but it can be a bit dispiriting. He's a superlative punk / pop-punk songwriter and performer, much less convinced by his stabs at balladeering and indie rock. Again, I had a fine time, but it paled in comparison to the other performances I'd seen for energy and memorability.
to each their own, the seesaw vocal melody is like a cheese grater on my ears and the lyrics don't do much for me
if there's a marginally weaker song on that album for me clearly it's the Ghost one. insanely clunky lyrics and the instrumental is not one of his best either Weird might be one of my favourite songs by him haha
I was kinda stunned that we didn't get anything from the back half of Worry which is still his crowning achievement for me....felt a bit bad for the guy who turned up in a homemade shirt with "LOVE IS WORRY" scrawled on it
On a more positive note I will say "I wanna be wrong" is probably in my top 5 Rosenstock tunes at this point. Perfect song
That’s almost identical to the setlist I got last year and it fucking ripped. We did get the Worry medley tho
I didn't spend a ton of time with Hellmode when it came out but threw it on yesterday and today and it is really great. I definitely am a We Cool / Worry stan though so obvious would love more of those. Stoked regardless been awhile since I've seen him Also put Bomb on yesterday and hope to one day get to see those songs again
thank you for the bump cause I spun WORRY. for the first time in a bit. the album will always rip. hopefully spin HELLMODE tmrw!
Sold my Baltimore ticket to go to a friend’s birthday party after seeing the last run in DC, but this setlist is giving some regrets Jeff Rosenstock Setlist at Rams Head Live!, Baltimore
Seeing him tomorrow in Minneapolis. Crossing my fingers for the Worry medley, since it's not a guarantee every night.
I've seen him 3 times in the past 2 years and I'm still waiting until the Brooklyn show he talked about to drop so I can figure out my summer plans
Minneapolis was a blast. There was an early curfew for some reason but they played a full set and just sped up the songs a tad, it was awesome
