Jonah Levine Collective is sitting in my top 10 so I figured this was the thread to share it. So good. And while I'm on 2017 jazz, Gerald Clayton's new album is incredible. Still need to spend more time with it.
Spent a good chunk of today exploring Duke Ellington. Just staggeringly brilliant. So intimidating to have so much genius all just as singles and shit Edit: For example, there isn't a single version of "Reminiscing in Tempo" on Spotify.
My ears not on the ground enough to say, but is there a resurgence going on right now? Because it feels like it. This new album for example I can't stop listening to. Lots of releases with similar vibes going around, too
Finally got to this after a long time of it being rec'd to me by a friend and it's unsurprisingly wonderful. The DRUMS, man. Jesus.
Losing Max Roach sucks, a truly great talent and innovator Max Roach, a Founder of Modern Jazz, Dies at 83
Yea, I texted my friend who is a jazz drummer and he was like dude... this was 10 years ago.. I was like oops ha
Holy shit this album RIPS. One of the tightest horn sections I have ever heard. Just utter livewire insanity..
Not sure if he's already been mentioned but I had the insane pleasure to finally see Donny Mccaslin (my favorite saxophonist still breathing next to Chris Potter) play with Jason Lindner (killer synth player) and Mark Guiliana. It was my first time seeing him and I was awestruck. Check these mubs out
We Insist is so many things. So many good things. My mouth was literally open on accident by the time it was over. It's celebratory, it's pensive, it's fucking in your face but reserved all at once. I don't know anything about it, but a single listen got my mind racing. So yeah, Y'all should make time if i'm somehow not the only one who was way late to this
What are some of the best jazz albums released this year? Outside of Kamasi Washington, Binker & Moses, and Christian Scott I didn’t check out much else.
I don't know about best, but here are three that I really enjoyed: Jonah Levine Collective - Attention Deficit Gerald Clayton - Tributary Tales Nate Smith - Kinfolk: Postcards from Everywhere
Also, I'm down with smooth jazz - "Watercolors" station on SiriusXM is my jam But I'm also down with the Real Jazz station
