Saw Scofield tonight, that old man can rock. Great band he's got with them too, hard not to like a band called Yankee Go Home lol
Been enjoying this from this year, not sure if it's been posted: Also excited to listen to the new Joel Ross tonight which I'm shocked none of you in here alerted me to (I don't think??)
Also I don't know if this kind of thing is really anyone here's bag but this one fucking rocks. Might be my favorite Brotzmann of what I've heard lol. So damn tight for how free it is
Seeing Makaya tonight, very pumped, no idea what to expect - no band listed for this tour that I could find, just another producer. Didn't look too hard though, fine with being surprised, sure it'll rip regardless.
Last time I saw him Jeff Parker and Theon Cross were both in the band and the show was amazing. He just played here in town 2 nights ago but unfortunately couldn’t make it :(
Great recs all, thank u Makaya show was great, but kind of weird vibes because like I guess he's from around here and 75% of the crowd seemed to be there because they knew him personally? Which is great for him but just like...idunno kinda weird vibes. Music ripped though of course
So glad all these are on streaming now, they're all insanely good. I knew about the Miguel Atwood-Ferguson one, but didn't realise the Verocai and Astatke ones were too until today. What I would give to have been at those shows. I mean, they would have been lost on 26 year old me, but still!
Finishing up all of these today and wow really good jazz day is an understatement. Every one of these is right up my alley
Been listening to Keith Jarrett's Köln Concert on repeat the last few days. That and In a Silent Way (and Talk Talk). Any recs for somber/ambient/whatever they fall under Jazz would be greatly appreciated. I'm not super into the upbeat stuff. Literally anything, I'm a pretty big novice in the genre.
It's too early for a lot of recs to come to mind immediately but will think about it. Maybe Tribute to Jack Johnson? The B Side at least for sure. I think that's the most similar of his to In a Silent Way, unfortunately I don't think Miles has anything else in his discog that's quite that mellow and somber/ambient/whatever though. In a Silent Way I think is my favorite studio release of his though. One of my favorite records of all time easily. Will keep thinking tho
Well, maybe I was just thinking of electric miles. Kind of Blue is pretty mellow and kind of lives in that beauty of space, although I wouldn't call it ambient or somber. I'm sure you've heard that though. Sketches of Spain has those vibes sometimes, borders on not jazz but really an incredible record regardless. Miles was really the GOAT
Yeah Kind of Blue was maybe my first foray into the classics. Love it. I don't know if I've listened to Sketches of Spain, but I'll add that and Jack Johnson
FWIW, I don't think you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you dug into this in addition to other albums, either. But I will keep thinking because like I said IASW is one of my all time favs, fun prompt to try to think of similar stuff.
