Cannot believe we are less than 48 hours from new Jay Som. Been waiting for this record for so long

 

Looks like my pre-order showed up at a post office one zip code over this morning. Fingers crossed that means I’ll have it in hand tomorrow

 

Ayyyyy. Came with this lil flexi too, not sure what’s on it. Decent sized foldout poster too with a bunch of photos from the studio and notes about the making of the record. Stoked to listen in a bit

 

Had a lot of fun with this on my first listen today!

 

What is that flexi about since uhhhh it isn't even part of the Zia Records or Polyvinyl editions??

 

It came with the Zia exclusive, but yeah it’s not mentioned anywhere on their site! At a closer glance, it says D.H. on it (clear font so kinda hard to see), so I’m guessing maybe it’s an alternate version of the song? I’ll spin it in a little bit and find out

Never listened to Jay Som. Heard the song with Hayley today and loved it. Listened to one minute of another and thought, nah, this is terrific and I'm gonna wanna wait and listen to the whole record in full tonight. Suddenly very excited!

It's a much moodier affair than I expected, gonna need more listens.

 

This rules overall on first listen. Her production is so good and it’s so good to hear her write songs again. What You Need immediate standout track, gonna need some more listens to figure out if it stands up to the other records but this lived up to the wait for the most part.

 

Wow, this is nice! If I were writing a review, I'd call it "lush" lol

 

I don't think I'd choose Want it All for the closer though

I love when a sneaky AOTY contender appears from an artist I haven’t been familiar with. This album is fucking incredible.

 

somehow never heard of jay som before, but saw some of the collabs and checked out the record. this rocks. the production is great.

 

ya I was ready to declare this a perfect comeback but it’s gonna take me a few more listens to figure out if the last run of 3 songs is great or if it ends on a slight downswing

 

new converts: enjoy going backwards after your time with this one. anak ko is one of my favorite records and everybody works is incredible as well. their project with palehound, bachelor, also has a great album out
