A bit early, but supporter forum first listen could be your middle ground option

There's a phrase that aptly describes what we're talking about in this thread, coined by Patterson Hood shortly before Isbell joined DBT: "the duality of the Southern thing"

I do plan to do that. I wanted to do it yesterday, but I forgot that my in-laws were coming into town for the late-afternoon/evening and didn't end up having time. Sometime this weekend, probably.

Awesome! I have an assload of paper-writing to do for my courses (45 pgs in the next 10 days) so I'm about to log out of Chorus and all my other distractions for awhile haha. But I hope that when I return that first listen piece will be waiting for me!

    Slow down, Quentin Supporter

I'm always interested in how opinions on records change with time. I'd love to read an April review and a June review to trace how it holds up for you. Think that'd be neat and kind of genre defining, especially for someone who writes like you do. You're so personal and reflective, and your reviews tell us about the record and about your experience with it. I wanna see that progression.
Plus I'll read whatever words you publish.

Good stuff, but kind of a weak chorus in my opinion.

Maybe this is frowned upon, but can someone DM me some insight into where to find the RSD stuff?
I usually completely avoid this kind of thing but I'd love to hear it.

    all we have is time

The chorus reminds me of Gaslight Anthem a little.. not sure why, but it's killer.

Whole song reminds me of GA circa 59 Sound. Partially the production...guitar tone and especially spring reverb on Isbell's vocals. Also the song itself though

I dunno man, I went for a drive the other day and saw the Americana, southern rock, folk, rock, country, alt-country, outlaw country and folk rock militias out in the middle of a cornfield staring each other down and it seemed pretty fucking intense. Eight distinctive bands of angry thirty- and forty-somethings with pitchforks, torches, flannel shirts and salt-n-pepper beards. Not to be trifled with!

Hey @Craig Manning you gonna try to make it to any of the Isbell shows @ the Chicago Theatre over Labor Day Weekend?

I already have awesome seats for his show in Cincinnati July 1st but I'm considering trying to hit one of the Chicago dates too. Can't see him too many times right? haha

Playing it by ear on those. I might have some family stuff going on that weekend, so it's tough to plan this far in advance! We don't have a Michigan date on this tour (other than the Outlaw Fest thing at the Joe) so I might have to look elsewhere.

There's a chance that my brother and sister might be at that Cinci show, though!

Nice! Went to the Chicago Theatre for the first time in February to see the the last night of Wilco's residency and it's an awesome old place. Hope you get to get out there and see him this year either way

Hope so too. We got a Grand Rapids date last fall, which was awesome. I'm hoping he'll play the new venue in town sometime.

I'm a bit of a JI neophyte in that I've really only heard a handful of singles but i really like what ive heard and reading this has got me even more excited. I guess I should get around to checking out the records he has while I wait.
