Things I learned making this list of 50 songs:
"Alabama Pines" is my favorite pre-sober Jason solo song.
"Children of Children" is my least favorite post-sober Jason solo song.
"Daylight" is my least favorite of Jason's DBT songs.
I need to listen to the self-titled album more probably because it seems like its been years since I have with any sort of regularity.
The 12 songs from Southeastern are apparently amongst my 20 favorite overall.
I probably couldn't replicate this list if I made it tomorrow.

  2. Scrolled to the bottom, saw "Goddamn Lonely Love" and "Stopping By" at 45 and 46, immediately discredited everything above that haha. Sorry man but I love those songs, no way they rank below the bulk of his first two solo records.

  3. I really can't bring myself to try to rank his DBT work and "Sirens" side-by-side with his last two records. I adore those songs so so much and they've been a part of me for so long that I'm probably always going to be biased towards them. That being side, I do think SMTF is his best work and some of his best songs have been written in the last few years.

I love "If It Takes A Lifetime"

I can't rank the songs but I will say that the DBT songs and the last 2 albums are, in general, the best stuff (for me) and the previous 3 albums are solid but not in the same ballpark.

  6. Anyone score the RSD release today?

Yeah I got it. My old system got wrecked but I have one of those tiny little all-in-one things that I listened to it on. Pretty awesome.

  8. Damn wish I was near a good record store/had had the time to go wait in line to get it. Hopefully someone with a stellar system floats a rip somewhere eventually

  9. Also it looks like another new song besides "High Road" got worked into the set last night at EKU in Richmond, KY: "If We Were Vampires." Don't see any video as of yet though.

I saw that, I was googling around for a video but no luck. I'm just dying to hear what his next part of that sentence is, honestly.

  14. Its everything I was hoping for. This band can really fucking rock. Although the chord changes are slightly wrong in the chorus of "Atlantic City" and it slightly offends my Springsteen geek sensibilities haha

Excited to listen tomorrow. I struggle with some Springsteen covers, but usually it's the voice that's make or break for me. I doubt I'll have a problem with Isbell's take.

Last of my Kind is unreal. Stupid good. Really curious to hear the studio version because that solo version was perfect.

    The EP is sick, predictably.

    all we have is time

Man I was blown away by the RSD release. Such a tight live band, and he made them all sound like Isbell tracks. "Atlantic City" was definitely a highlight for me.

He literally has it all. Incredible songwriter, great vocalist, ridiculous guitarist... geez. Even more excited for the new record now!

Fuck. This might be his best record. So dark and personal, yet universal at the same time. And ultimately extremely life affirming. I can't imagine anything beating this to the top of my EOTY list.
