kinda makes the solo aspect make more sense. i’d imagine it would be weird for some of the guys who were amanda’s band mates to get asked to play on that
Especially after hearing this song, which feels like a way more obvious “single” than the other two songs we’ve heard.
what song we talkin' about? the setlists for the shows so far have looked like i will have a nice and good time saturday.
It got deleted but it’s called True Believer and he has closed some sets with it. Honestly if I were you I wouldn’t listen to it before Sat anyway—I think you’ll be pretty fucking floored hearing it in person the first time lol. Jealous!! edit: actually looks like he’s closing every set with it so I definitely would not listen if it resurfaces. let yourself be surprised
Would love to hear your thoughts on any new songs we haven’t heard—I think Ride to Roberts and Gravelweed at least have been staples beyond the two singles and True Believer
He played 'Eileen' which I did not know until I went back through the setlist, did not seem overly memorable but Gravelweed, Ride to Roberts, and True Believer were all real good. I am looking forward to this album a tiny bit more. It was nice to get a few DBT covers at this show (Outfit, Danko).
His guitar playing is really incredible there. However - Idk if I’ve ever had a complaint about an Isbell lyric but “God said ‘Hold my beer’” got a groan out of me.
I like this a lot so far aside from a couple songs. "True Believer" and "Gravelweed" are particularly great. "Don't Be Tough" feels he's trying to re-write "Outfit" and kind of grasping at straws.
“Eileen” really hit the first listen. "Don't Be Tough" I don't mind but feels like him doing Prine to me (the line about letting babies stay up late) and it's a reminder of how much Prine's particular POV/goofball-genius phrasing is so hard to truly replicate.
Wall Street Journal article says he fired Jimbo from the band. Anyone know the details there? I thought that was an amicable split/that Jimbo really wanted to get off the road.
obviously no one knows the truth but people are speculating he took amanda’s side in the divorce because evidently he unfollowed jason on everything and still likes and comments on a lot of amanda’s stuff seems like silly speculation but probably a shred of truth to it
good while it lasted and true believer are great overall this is pretty good but by his standards that means it’s probably my least favorite on first listen since prior to southeastern
Idk how the timeline lines up exactly. Jimbo was announced as taking a band-sanctioned mental health break in like June 2023 and then... never came back.
it stinks to lose a guy who has been around since the beginning but i think anna butterss is a much better bassist
