Watch out for wildfires

 

King of Oklahoma, Strawberry Woman, Cast Iron Skillet, and If You Insist are early standouts. What a songwriter this guy is (and yeah, shoutout to the 400 Unit for sure).

 

First listen was in the background at work but was still blown away multiple songs. Can't wait to sit on the back patio with this and a bourbon (or three) tonight.

 

Reunions is a phenomenal album - I don't think Jason Isbell has a single album that isn't at least very great - and the run of "Dreamsicle" - "Only Children" - "Overseas" is one of my favorite stretches of songs on any of his albums, but I do think it's a tough way to start off an album with a ≈7 minute song that's also the weakest song on the album. I also think Reunions would have been a little stronger if the band could have cut loose a bit more on a few songs like they do on this new album.

 

Is that a fuckin glockenspiel panned to the left channel in King of Oklahoma? Comes in on the first chorus. Let’s go Derry

 

Can confirm this album works well on a summer morning run.

It also sounds great sitting inside mostly immobile with a stupid walking boot on trying to force yourself to do work on a Friday. It just sounds great lol

No I tried to play basketball in shitty old running shoes on an outdoor court and seemingly tore or stretched every ligament between my toes and my shin

I'm here just to say what everyone else in this thread already knows - holy shit this is good.

 

Loved this of course. When We Were Close is a tough one, but what a song.

 

This is a real me move. My right Achilles is hanging on by a thread I’m pretty sure but I’m too scared to go to the doctor to see what’s actually wrong lol

 

i have listened to this so far 6x today.

its his best. signed and sealed.

I listened to the closer like 4 times in a row on the way home from work

 

I think it is too early for me to say that this is his best album, but I can say at this point that the man has continued his insane streak of absolutely incredible albums from 7 to 8. He is such a great songwriter.

This album is amazing.

“Now she’s licking the blade of a ten-dollar knife”…it’s a cliche to say this at this point but Isbell really is like an incredible short story writer.

 

Yep, followed closely by King of Oklahoma

 

i don't love strawberry woman and there's some weird production on the doubled vocals int he chorus of save the world, but other than that, this is pretty close to perfect

 

"how did you get so low, seems like just a week ago we were 10 and 12 years old" jesus dude save some lyrics for the rest of us
