Btw, for those like me who were very curious:

 

Interesting, and yeah I doubt it’s true as well. It’s funny when I think of the guys that are great finger pickers, like Moreland, John R Miller, Prine, or Clark, none of them are particularly great guitar players. Then you have guys like Isbell or Sturgill that are amazing guitarists but don’t utilize finger picking almost at all.

The 400 Unit haven't had a chance to shine on an album like they do on this new one and really demonstrate what they each bring to the table since the self-titled album. Even Here We Rest - an album that I absolutely love - although more guitar-heavy than the Dave Cobb produced albums, is still very straightforward musically. Southeastern, SMTF, TNS & Reunions are all much more showcases for Jason Isbell's world-class songwriting than they are opportunities for The 400 Unit to show off their musical chops. Which is fine - those are all incredible albums, and the band always sounds *good* because they are really good musicians. It is also really fun though to hear and discover the little musical flourishes and touches sprinkled all throughout this new album. Some smack you in the face the first time you hear this, and others open themselves up to you slowly over time and leave you wondering how you missed them the first 20 times you played this album.

 

Fuuuuuuuuck I wish my date on Sat wasn’t a festival because they played ALL 13 SONGS FROM WEATHERVANES at the tour opener in Fayetteville last night

 

I’m seeing him at the Frost Amphitheater with Deer Tick. Hope he’ll do the same there, would be dope to hear all of the new album live!
