If my second shot of Pfizer doesn't knock me on my ass I might hit up my local record store to find this today.

Yeah I was really hoping she would get the Phoebe Bridgers treatment this album cycle, meaning massively blow up, and it seems like that is happening! So happy for her!

same record label... seems like they’re doing the same rollout playbook, which definitely worked for PB!

  8. Just love how timeless this record feels. In an era where we get so much modern music infused with retro influences, this feels like more of a retro pop album with some modern influences. If you introduced this to me as a revisited album from like 1982 or something I think I’d mostly believe you. I hear Tactics or Kokomo and feel like I can picture the band on a fuzzy television screen playing Carson haha

  9. Love the Wild Nothing influence on "Slide Tackle." Reminds me a lot of "Paradise." She does that dancey jangle-pop sound so well

Jack Tatum co produced some of this album right?

  11. He co-wrote and co-produced "Be Sweet" and one other song, but I'm not sure which off-hand, though I wouldn't be surprised if it was "Slide Tackle"

Listened to this about 3 times so far it's perfect. Going to be hard to top Soft Sounds for me tho

  13. This arrived with some stuff in another order I'd made later. A little peeved, but stoked to finally listen.

    And yeah. It's amazing.

After my third listen this whole thing is spectacular. Had it on in the backyard while bbqing. I was grooving to Paprika, and Slide Tackle.

I just lost my house. Shocked.

I mean yadda yadda 7.8 is still a good score, but let’s be honest, when a bulk of the P4K “reader”ship looks at the site they’re looking at the score and BNM or bust, so I was wanting that bump for her. It’s a very positive review.

This is my favorite album of the year so far, still expect it to dominate year end lists, would not even be remotely surprised if it still ends up in P4K’s top 10 come December.

Whoa I’m kind of shocked. Feel like they usually give swings for the fences better scores than that if they connect even partially, which this obviously does.

  20. 7.8 is a great score though.

At the end of the day, the writing is what hooks you, and convince you to listen or re-listen, right?

The writing for that review is great. The biggest criticism is of her singing, which is a valid thing delivered in a respectful way. I personally think her vocals are way more dynamic on this record, but I can see how someone would want less of the hushed vocals when her voice bursts with colors at full volume.

Also, like... Japanese Breakfast has gotten as much press as anybody in indie rock gets this side of Phoebe Bridgers. I don’t think Pitchfork BNM is going to move the needle *further* on getting folks to engage with her work.
