I've had an awful work week and have only been able to listen to my vinyl once since last Friday so I'm excited to spend the weekend with this :)
I cannot and will not be getting over Posing For Cars for a very long time. Edit: song is a Jimmy Eat World level closer
Kokomo was a little busy to my ears on my first listen. Felt like some of those strings could’ve sat a little lower in the mix — but who knows, down the line those hooks might resonate more with me. But from that moment on, this was clean as hell. Songwriting, hooks, instrumentation, production, all of the above. Incredible stuff, immediately my favorite of hers.
Well well well if this isn't excellent. What a treat. Paprika, Slide Tackle and In Hell really stood out on first listen but it's all great. I'd only listened to Be Sweet so I was hoping for a bit more upbeat pop stuff but I can't complain. Very excited to dig into this - going away for the week tomorrow so this is gonna be good company.
Wow. Steven Hyden said this record harkened back to the 00’s heyday of indie rock and yea....I got tingles up my spine when those horns kicked in on “Paprika”. There’s a bigness and an embracing of melody that has definitely receded (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse) from a lot of the big tent indie albums. This album is going to go instantly into the canon.
Early AOTY contender for me. It's absolutely wild to me that Slide Tackle almost didn't make the cut, been going back to it all morning.
This album is incredible. "In Hell" guts me and the closer is fantastic. "Slide Tackle" is definitely a highlight, I feel like that song should be huge this summer.
