Totally fit the song imo

While it’s my least favorite song on the record, I don’t mind Orlando. But now with the full record out… what a bizarre choice for a lead single haha. Maybe my only real complaint with the record is slotting that at track 2. Sorta kills momentum right off the rip. It’s good that it’s followed by Honey Water, which immediately redeems it

 

So this is my first Japanese Breakfast album I've listened to, partly because I've been meaning to listen to them for a while and just haven't and partly because I really dig the album art to this one.

This is a very pretty album! I'm not sure if it grabs me immediately but lyrically at least Winter in LA gets me the most, as simple as they are.

It didn’t grab me as much on first listen as Jubilee but it’s good. I won’t return to it as often as Jubilee, that’s for sure.

 

Nah Blake mills, the producer, just thought it’d be cool

I hate the feature a lot. Pretty much ruins the song for me

 

I have to listen again but I thought he sounded similar to Iggy Pop from this OPN track:

 

I have enjoyed listening to this record during the weekend. Need to order the vinyl asap

enjoyed the first listen today wasn't expecting to much after the mixed reactions.

 

i love it. can’t say i understand the complaints other than that it’s more subdued and less varied than her other stuff, jubilee in particular. the only song i’m a little iffy on is men in bars because of the jeff bridges feature, but i still like it.

 

Hyden’s review of this is so cringeworthy and insulting. I can’t even link to it.

I still love this after listening nearly every day.

I’ll agree with @trevorshmevor though this is my only real complaint:

 

I've been enjoying this a lot. Very breezy vibey listen that's perfect for the early spring weather we've been having in PA.

 

the melody in the “as if the sea had bore her…” part of orlando reminds me so much of the melody in the chorus of sit

 

also yeah, i’ve liked some of hyden’s writing in the last but his review of this was pretty bad

 

Hoping this clicks more with me. I like it and it’s enjoyable to put on but her first 3 are all timers for me and I’m waiting for this to reach that level
