  2. thinking about her interviews for the new album and how this was the more-gnarled artist’s album after the bombastic breakout hit and how she’s content if jubilee is as big as it gets

not defending her decision, but i feel like a lot of people still don't really have a grasp on the ways ai can be damaging. like, so many smart, generally well-informed people i know both professionally and personally aren't really aware of the downsides and just get caught up in the "computer make cool picture" thing. or use it to be lazy and avoid typing emails or whatever. she's getting absolutely roasted in the comments of the post, which is good if it makes her realize this was an error, but i truly believe there are a LOT of people that either don't know the harm ai does or seem to believe the pros outweigh the cons.

AI aside (and I sincerely doubt she isn’t aware of how bullshit it is) teaming up with Google is just as shitty. Hopefully they paid her a lot because it is rightfully turning a lot of her fans off

no way she is unaware about the implications of AI. she's an indie musician. this has been at the forefront of the cultural conversation for a while now

  6. At the risk of sounding stupid, I appreciate that many of the comments I read are expressing disappointment and desire for her to reflect as opposed to like, scathing hatred, because I fear the latter could cement most artists in the "my fans are too online" stage. Maybe she will actually take the time to reflect. Maybe pigs will fly out of my butt. Who knows.

Currently in a company All Hands meeting about our AI initiatives which I have to encourage my employees to utilize. I hate this world

i don't really think you can say definitively either way. again, maybe it's just anecdotal, but the people vehemently speaking out against ai are still in the minority in my view.

  9. yeah, this has been the conversation in my industry (higher ed - yikes!) as well

either way speculating what someone knows or doesn't know about a topic isn't useful. it sucks, i wish she didn't do it, but ai is everywhere right now and i can understand how easily a lot of people are persuaded into falling for its false appeal.

oh I get it. I have family members who unfortunately have become dependent on chatgpt to even write non-professional things for them. I work at a shitty corporation and they are pushing it HARD for everything. regardless, in regards to the art I enjoy, this is a line in the sand I can't personally cross. makes me lose a lot of respect--same thing happened for me with Aaron Marsh from Copeland, and with Washed Out. when these otherwise great musicians begin to plug AI, I immediately tune out.

AI is a disaster for the world on a number of levels and there are certainly companies I’d rather see bands sell out to than fucking google, but idk. I expected a lot worse before actually going to watch the ad. There are plenty of uses of AI I find disgusting, and even the genuinely useful applications make me uncomfortable on a climate impact level at minimum, but the Siri on steroids genie isn’t going back in the bottle. I don’t think that’s a sustainable bar for whether people are OK or not personally. Don’t love Michelle shilling for Google, obviously, and I hope the backlash is productive, but I can’t look at this as a total mask off moment either.

Moral objections aside, I just think it’s fucking embarrassing.
