Really liked this, numerous levels above the previous one. D&T is the worst song here, strange choice for a single.
"Positively 34th Street" is just wonderful, easily my favourite. "Alice" is probably the closest they've come sonically to matching the Gun Club cover. I think the harmonies on this are the best they've ever had. I was expecting it to be a quite melancholy, bittersweet send-off but it ended up being pretty joyous and feelgood. I really hope they're able to look back on the whole project in that way and get back out there because this album is proof that there's still a ton of life in them.
On first listen this kinda went in one ear and out the other, I'm gonna need a few more focused listens I think
That’s how it was for me. The second listen with headphones went better but still need more time with it.
This one is really hitting for me. It really has "series finale" energy about it, and I think the emotion of it being the last time absolutely comes through in the songs. Especially the last few. Great record.
this is great. chicago definitely the strongest song by a lot but that's ok. i'm assuming that's dave singing lead on the song that is actually fucking called "a gaslight anthem" lol
I love Upon Sober Reflection. This entire thing is a warm blanket of raising a glass with your best friends in a room filled with crunching guitar sounds and fists in the air.
Listening to the new Japandroids while I go grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s, just as the songs on Celebration Rock promised.
that's a damn good japandroids album. opener put a huge grin on my face and the drums sound terrific. so glad to get one more out of them. *solemnly* dudes rock
