Okay I liked D&T a lot unlike some ppl but this one, this one ehhhhh Chicago still a top-3 Japandroids song tho
I don’t dislike “Chicago,” but I must protest against Chris’s suggestion that there aren’t at least three better songs on Celebration Rock.
that Stereogum piece reads like an obituary. fun tidbit that "A Gaslight Anthem" actually seems to reference The Gaslight Anthem though!
oh this is the closer? oof. I like what it does on the back half and maybe it will work better on the full album, but "In A Body Like A Grave" and "Continuous Thunder" set an incredibly high bar. their last song certainly doesn't need to be 5 minutes long, but this is a band often defined by the word 'epic' they could have let it breathe. this one is giving me the same underwhelmed feeling as The Gaslight Anthem's "We Did It When We Were Young".
I'm honestly mystified at this take, lol. "Chicago" is a B- for me, at best. I think I'd take every Celebration Rock song over it other than the cover.
I actually like this new song a lot, though. I wish it went on for a little longer, but I still think it has a satisfying amount of climactic heft.
Dang, that was a good and very relatable piece. Pretty wild that one of them can’t leave the US, lest his green card application expire. I wish we could trade citizenships. I wouldn’t mind giving Vancouver or Toronto a try if he wants my US citizenship.
Really? I always thought it had a lot of energy and a really great vocal performance. The moment to “catch your breath” on the record
