I think it'll grow on me. I was like "what's wrong with it? sounds great." Then the chorus made me raise my eyebrows just a little bit.
Not my favorite from them, but I'm not opposed to this style of Japandroids. Interested to see how this feels in the context of the full album. Here's Brian's description of the song: We had been on the road for a year and a half, and the plan was to wrap-up our riot of indulgence with a four-night stand in Philly. We arrived early, exhausted and disheveled, voices shot, hearts parched, and while we had every intention of easing into it, someone inevitably called all-hands-to-the-bar and away we went. One before-breakfast eye-opener turned into two and pretty soon I was pleasantly jingled. With soundcheck still hours away, I decided that a walk was in order and slipped outside under the guise of a cigarette. Half a block later, I was stopped by an intangible stranger who politely remarked that he had seen plenty of drinkin’ johnnies and cokey joes aimlessly exploring the streets of Philadelphia, but I took the cake. He prescribed Jesus and water, which I solemnly acknowledged. Sheepishly, I returned to my stool and upon seeing my reflection in the mirror behind the bar became wistful and started writing.
Yeah idk I think it’s pretty good though not as good as Chicago which rules. Sounds like a japandroids song lol
What a read. Holy.. It made me sad and satisfied at the same time. Guess it feels like some kind of closure after years of missing them and always wondering what they were up to.
“King proudly claims he’s seen Deftones about 30 times across several continents; opinions on their artistic merit remain a wedge issue for the duo.“
Kinda funny to me that Brian now lives in Michigan. A Foundational Memory for me was the extremely cold night in 2012 when I borrowed my roommates car to drive 4-5 hrs round trip to see them in Grand Rapids like a week after CR leaked. Great show too
Anyway: I’ll miss this band forever but the lede was (intentionally) buried there. Sounds like Brian is far from done in music
I hope so but we’ll see. I’m sure it’ll be a long while before that happens but I hope he has his version of Stereo//Mono in the future
