So Afraid is such an incredible penultimate track. I like how it kind of closes out the personal narrative of the album before going into Americans which addresses the bigger picture themes discussed throughout.
So I gotta say, I couldn’t have been more excited for this record after “Pynk” “I Like That” and “Make Me Feel”.....3 of the better songs I’ve heard all year. “I Like That” is going to be on my shortlist for best songs at years end. However, I can’t but feeling let down by the record as a whole. Maybe it will grow but not much else is really sticking for me right now. I do like “Crazy Classic Life”
To be able to say my favorite rap track of the year is by Janelle is crazy to me. Django is such a creative banger
This didn't get best new music and on one hand I really don't give a damn what Pitchfork says, but on the other I'm really salty they are not giving this the amount of love it deserves.
I was too that's why I'm kind of thrown. I mean at the very least I thought it'd hit BNM. Kacey Musgraves and Kali Uchis (two of my other favorite albums this year) both got BNM, and imo this blows them both away.
yeah that's honestly kinda surprising. Watch them put it in the Top 10 albums at the end of the year though haa
I think i like Archandroid more after a couple listens- feels like it has a broader scope. I also love Janelle when shes being super weird. This is more concise and to the point but still excellent. Will probs put it above Electric Lady.
I watched the movie this weekend but it was late and after some drinks so I didn't really focus. Watched it again tonight and it's really cool too. Definitely helps drive home the themes of the album. Also she is gorgeous in it she can pull off any style she tries. Truly a queen.
I like this album because it feels as big and imaginative as both those, while being a little more focused and to the point. But I definitely couldn't knock you're opinion here. Archandroid is a classic as far as I'm concerned.
Did anyone watch her performance on the Voice last night? Her dance moves are so smooth lol. I'd like to see her in concert, but none of the concert dates are nearby me :(
A couple notes from the AMA: Dirty Computer vinyl is coming and Cindi Mayweather's story is not over (though she is vague about what that means).
This album release inspired me to listen to all of her stuff for the first time and holy shit, all four of her projects (including the Metropolis EP) are fantastic. I've been severely underrating her for years now, I didn't know her music was nearly this good. I've only heard each album once so far but I can't decide if ArchAndroid or this one are her best, and Electric Lady is pretty easily my least favorite even though it's still pretty great My favorite songs from this album so far are probably I Like That, Django Jane and Americans, which is basically Let's Go Crazy but I fucking love that song so I'm okay with it The movie was really cool too
