I love the sound on this, but it’s a little same-y. The songs run together in my mind. They all have a similar sound, tempo, and tone. I’ll probably visit individual songs a lot, but maybe not the whole album. I think she uses the glass-shattering-type noise too much. It’s a cool effect but loses potency when over-used.
I agree that that tends to be my criticism of hyperpop overall, where the maximalism just becomes like a wall of sound. I can see someone saying the same for this album but for whatever reason it worked for me. But I’ll be honest that I don’t see myself returning to this much. It’s just not something I gravitate to.
I've not had a chance to listen to this yet but I'm glad she's back to the electronic/hyperpop stuff. I loved Frailty but haven't really gotten into anything since then.
Definitely not something I’ll return to often but it’s interesting and it seems she let loose here. Whiplash listening to Venturing then this
