nostalgia is definitely playing a role as James Blake’s run of EP’s and remixes pre self titled and then the self titled were like my first exposure to electronic music that wasn’t the obnoxious brostep dominating my friend’s speakers at the time

 

yeah I find the EPs some of his best work almost every time. prefer "I Keep Calling" to anything on Assume Form for example

I don't know if it's his best song but I've spun CMYK title track more than anything else in his discog, it just never gets old

 

I definitely agree that nostalgia will always play a big part, yes. But the fact you can listen to some of those early singles now and they still feel as if they're coming from about 20 years in the future, is mad to me. I'm not sure many people have caught up to him and Mount Kimbie yet. True innovators IMO.

Talking of Mount Kimbie, looks like they are in the process of making a new album at the moment and it sounds like they've had a big hand in JB's new album too.

 

I have one big playlist with all the albums and EPs on it and that's my favorite thing to listen to on long evening drives

Just went to his first show back and it was amazing! This album is going to be so good. He played 6 songs from it including the 3 singles.

 

Phewwwww boy he was incredible in Chicago tn. Absolutely lost my shit at I Keep Calling into CMYK

this is quite a solid album, good stuff

 

About halfway through my first listen and my impressions are pretty positive. Life is Not the Same and Frozen are big standouts so far.
