I'm tryna get these out to rappers it's a pretty fuckin saturated market but I feel my sound is way more unique than generic shit being pushed out. But most people want that generic shit. And they want it much cheaper than I'm willing to go. But I'm gonna try using these beats and a lot of others from the last couple years

This is a good EP by a good friend of mine named Jake Jenkins. Can't wait to spend more time with this. I had a fun time grooving to it in the kitchen this afternoon

Sort of an outsider here but why this strategy over giving away as much as you possibly can to as many people as you can to establish yourself? Once your name is out there you can start asking for more $$$. I mean it seems like you've found your sound, so can you proliferate and make sure everyone hears it? Not criticizing at all, just genuinely interested in how this works!

The way I've seen producers operate it goes in a certain order:

    1. You sell beats for a low flat rate to get your name out there on other people's albums, you offer for free as well but have the free beats watermarked to further promote your name. A lot of artists don't like to watermark beats as it ruins quality so they may not offer that option.

    2. As you get a bit more popular you slightly up the beat rate and add in terms that go along with distribution numbers so that you can get percentages if the song does become wildly successful.

    3. You charge much higher amounts because you're an established name in the industry.

I've bought from Jake before and the rate he charged was extremely reasonable, had no watermarks, and I had no limit on distribution. The way I see it, it was much more preferable to grabbing a free beat with a watermark all over it and limitations on how much I could use it.

Another thing to consider is the idea that Jake may want to build repertoire with specific artists, and not have people he doesn't think is good grabbing his beats for free and promoting his name with a negative connotation, if that makes sense.

Just giving my two cents of course.
