Miss California always felt like the most EIT song from the TGP sessions for me, so that's part of why I like it so much. If Rescued and MFEO is the end of summer transitioning into fall, Miss California sounds like the epilogue taking place in late fall/early winter
I also really like Bloodshot, Suicide Blonde, and What Gets You Off, and Hammers as well, but I just don't come back to them as much as I do the songs in the top 2 tiers. Maybe I should have made a 4th tier for Orphans and Drop Out....just could never get into those two a lot.
The bridge of “Bloodshot” really sells it for me. Andrew never recorded anything that sounds that creepy and cool.
Fuck it, but with the context that I like every song. This album sold me on Jack’s Mannequin. I liked EIT, but I wasn’t blown away and wasn’t into the back half overall. I was very stupid and even made a thread saying I liked the William Tell album more (ooof). Years later I bumped the thread apologizing for such an awful take. EIT grew on me over the years, but I think I’d give TGP my favorite Jack’s release. Just that initial time of listening where I felt like I was brought into what others had loved so much so far. Swim Annie Use Your Telescope Hammers Miss Cali Caves The Resolution Bloodshot What Gets You Off Crashin Spinning American Love Suicide Blonde Drop Out Orphans
Exactly hahaha I had moved on from it so quickly after I made that thread. So embarrassing haha another reason I’m glad AP has been wiped off the internet.
Love this album so I'll join in the rank fun. I'm super low on Swim compared to others I see here. The Resolution Caves Miss California Spinning Crashin --------- Drop Out Annie Hammers What Gets You Off --------- Bloodshot Suicide Blonde Swim American Love Orphans (maybe all time worst JM song)
Have you ever had severe depression? If not, I can see why Swim wouldn’t hit you as hard. But if you have you don’t vibe with it, I’m confused haha
Andrew is a great storyteller and the lyrics are powerful. I just don't like the melody or song itself. The music box version on the Dear Jack EP is probably better to me overall.
What happened in my case was I switched from my initial download (obviously from a long while ago) straight to Apple Music when it was released. IIRC Apple Music matched all the music I already had with their versions of them to make the transition ‘seamless’. It didn’t reorganize the order… I did, however, never notice the album cover.
Drop Out at the bottom???? I love this song. I remember when I first heard it I was like..."now this sounds like it could have been on "North" and brought me back to the SoCo days.
I have argued with Craig many times about how “American Love” is easily one of the BEST songs on TGP, so I’ll leave him alone. But the rest of you? For shame!
Ha, I used to not like it at all, but I’ve come around on it being a good song. Just still lower tier on the album for me.
