Pablo Larrain's Jackie stars Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy in the aftermath of her husband's assassination. Also starring Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, John Hurt, Billy Crudup.

It's quite good. It took me a bit to get adjusted to how Portman played Jackie, but after that it became very strong.

What do you mean by that exactly?

The mannerisms of the character, specifically the accent. I don't know anything about the really Jackie, but the features of the character here are so far removed from anything I've seen Portman portray before that it was a little jarring for the first bit.

Neruda was good. Hope this is too.

It is a mystery why people center films around someone who can't really act.

Been thinking a lot about Portman's awful accent in this lately.

liked this a lot, thought it did a great job of humanizing an icon a la My Week With Marilyn

Between this and Neruda, Larrain is making great films buried within what's being presented. Here, a chilling horror film buried in prestige drama, with Neruda, a brilliant comedy tucked into political biopic.

Just caught up with this. I think being jaded from so many Oscar bait driven historical biopics had me expecting a very different film, but I was pleasantly surprised. Found a lot to love here, and hope to catch up with Neruda soon.

I don't think her accent bothered me as much as some people (including my mother), but I don't really have the same history with Jackie O as some. But I definitely wouldn't say the accent was one of the strengths of Portman's performance hahaha

I actually thought the accent was pretty close to reality. I went back and watched some of that White House tour and she really did sound like that. Not that out-and-out mimicry = a good performance, because it doesn't, just that she got the voice pretty close.

Finally saw this, had been putting off for a while. I've been working at the JFK Presidential Library and Museum for the past four years, so the last thing I want to do after work is go and see this (as much respect as I have for those involved in the production). But I took this week off, so the time was right I guess.

But seriously, Portman knocks it out of the park. I couldn't tell you how many times I've sat through that White House Tour broadcast, and her recreation of those moments is downright eerie. She nails the voice and Jackie's posture and mannerisms as near-perfectly as possible. I might just be a little too close to the whole thing, but I'm shocked she's not cleaning up at the awards shows.

Regardless, the whole film is excellent. Beautifully shot. I read the screenplay as well (beforehand), which is a great read as well. Just really loved this one.
