On the day that would have been his 47th birthday, I thought I’d create a thread on probably one of the greatest artists of any genre to grace us with his presence in this mess that is life.

His ability to craft beats and flip samples in ways no one could possibly think of makes him stand head and shoulders above producers past and present.

It’s not hyperbole when people say he’s was as important to music as the likes of John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye or Prince. He was a musician like no other.

    Happy birthday, Jay

It’s been 15 years since his death today too.

I wasn’t aware of his work when he passed. I was only just getting back into hip hop at the time and very much into the weirder side of underground rap. But even before social media, I remember seeing a lot written about him and his work. It wasn’t till a year or so later that I began to appreciate his work.

Him and Madlib were definitely my gateway into instrumental hip hop and my introduction to Stones Throw. Forever grateful.

    RIP Jay

Just listening to Donuts. Again. Masterpiece doesn't do it justice.
